Essential Things to Ponder While Designing Your Blog Template

November 19, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

A new blog always displays a default theme that is usually made available by the blogging service provider. As your blog grows in stature and popularity over a period of time, a default theme may not usher your blog in a proper direction. There is also the case of lost identity as that specific theme or template has already been put into use by countless bloggers. A more user friendly and search engine friendly blog theme is the need of the hour. The rest of the article will guide you through some of the essential elements that you must ponder while designing your new blog template or theme.

The first thing you can do is to enhance the visual appeal of the theme. In order to make your task easier, blog software or blogging service providers offer the thumbnail views of wide array of blog themes. You can choose one that best represents your blog ideas and posts by going through their visual appearance gradually. Do not limit your attention to visual cues only. There are so many other aspects of blog design.

Secondly, your blog template must have the able support of an adequate and efficient navigation system so that your esteemed visitors will have fewer problems in accessing your various posts and other blog details. This is one aspect which has been persistently overlooked by many blog sites till now and results in their quick demise. Do not confuse your readers regarding where to go once they land on your blog page.

The third important thing is to create an ‘archive’ section where your old posts are stored and organized according to their publishing month. Many blog systems provide you this option by default. Even if you don’t have an archive section, you can find a perfect substitution in the form of ‘categories’ and ‘tags’ for your blog posts.

Moving on, a ‘search box’ must be present at the top or side of each blog page so that visitors can look for their desired posts quickly without browsing through each and every page. However, a problem lies with the search option as searching for blog posts can consume your server resources. If you’ve plenty of visitors, it may exceed the maximum resource limit specified by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) hastily. Still, you must make space for a search box on your blog for the larger interest of your readers.

The home page of your blog contains the summary of various posts. If a user finds the summary intriguing, he or she then clicks on the ‘permalink’ to read the full post. Most seasoned web surfers are aware of the permalink option. But, the same thing can’t be said about new or average users. For their convenience, you can place a ‘read more’ link colored in blue and underlined below the summary.

Last, but not the least, your blog side panel must be compatible with the rest of the blog theme in terms of color scheme. It is the center of all activities as it boasts precious information such as post titles, links to recent posts and links to the archives and tag clouds. Make this section fully transparent and understandable for the benefit of visitors.

Google is Upset About Hophunt While it Worries About Microhoo

November 12, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

Google worries about the Merging of Microsoft and Yahoo (MicroHoo) but quite upset about this new little website…

First, it is not surprising why Google will worry about this MicroHoo deal thing…

Yahoo is the number one most trafficked site on the Internet, Windows Live is in third place and Google is only in fourth place according to Alexa Traffic Rank.

MicroHoo can easily monetize their combine traffic and offer search to their users… this could lead to significant decline in Google user search traffic.

Plus, Microsoft can also easily monetize their desktop applications and put search box in each one of them. That could lead to further decline in Google user search traffic.

Is it the end of Google dominance in search engine world or is it the beginning of its extinction?

Maybe not.

According to comScore June 2007 Search Engine Ratings in the United States for June 2007… Google still got the share of the big pie:

Google Network: 49.5%, down from 50.7% in May 2007

Yahoo Network: 25.1%, down from 26.4%

Microsoft Network: 13.2%, up from 10.3%

MicroHoo Network: 38.30%

But take note that Microsoft Network share is rising and if that trend will continue, soon MicroHoo will steal much of Google Network’s share of the big pie.

Still, that would take years of battle before Google lose its dominance in search engine world…

But why is Google upset about HopHunt?

Well, we don’t exactly know where this news lose break on the first place.

We don’t really care if Google really upset about HopHunt but still we would like to know the real score…

Maybe, it’s because HopHunt offers $100,000 free ppc ads and that would mean or lead to significant decline in Google Adwords advertisers.

Let’s say, 1000 advertisers will grab the $100,000 free ppc offer, that would mean a potential lose of $100 Million income by Google.

What if 10000, 20000, 50000, 100000 and more advertisers will grab the $100,000 free ppc offer? Just do the math.

Now, is it the beginning of Google extinction?

Not really.

Well, HopHunt doesn’t ring a bell and it doesn’t have much traffic.

Who cares?

But with the rising cost of pay-per-click (ppc) ads and of paid traffic, HopHunt free ppc offer is very hard to resist, indeed.

When Google started on the Internet it didn’t have much traffic also but now is in fourth most trafficked site on the entire Internet.

Think about HopHunt… one, two, or three years from now, it is no doubt it will also get more traffic and steal some of the share of the big pie.

But still, that would take years to prove and Google won’t bother anyway about HopHunt.

The only thing that bothers Google right now is MicroHoo, the merging of two Online Behemoth Microsoft and Yahoo.

How To Use Twitter As A Great Writing Exercise While Learning

October 29, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

One of the latest social networking phenomenons is Twitter. It seems to be on the mind of every celebrity, politician, student, business owner, and social maven.

If you aren’t aware of what Twitter is, here is a brief description. Twitter lets you post (the catch is 140 characters total or less) what you are doing, thoughts on a subject, a plug for a product, or a hello to your friends. You follow Twitter users and they can follow you as well.

Here is where I have found a new use of the site. One of the exercises I am currently teaching is how to say what you need to in articulate sentences while still staying in the 140 character restriction.

Yes, there are ways to circumvent the limitations such as using u for you or 4 and not 4 but when you can get a full impact to the reader without having to abbreviate your thoughts, you have learned a valuable tool.

When you speak or write the key is to keep the attention of those that you are communicating with. We often find ourselves endlessly explaining something that could be stated in more concise patterns.

The exercise is can be advantageous for the sports commentator that has to get his point across between each pitch of a baseball game or in between downs of a National Football League broadcast. It can help somebody on a job interview think faster and better their choice of words. Maybe you are a business owner and need to get the attention of a future client in a couple of sentences, or you are writing a headline for a blog post.

Whatever the reason why not try this. Think of a message you want to get across to friends, family, co-workers, and so on. Start to write the contents in Microsoft Word. When you have finished check the character count and if it is over 140 try to condense it without using abbreviations and losing the meaning of your thoughts. The next thing you can do is to take something that you have already posted or written that is over 140 characters and see if you can truncate this as well. It is not always feasible to be effective with a word or character limitation but for practice it can only benefit your speaking and writing capabilities today, tomorrow, and further down the road. What have you got to loose but a few words. Good luck!

Suggestions While Working With SEO Company

October 27, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

Things to consider while working with SEO firm

Based on my experience in executing SEO projects for over half a decade, I am posting a blog entry which deals with the suggestions for a client working with any SEO professional or SEO firm for optimizing his website.

·         Have complete faith in SEO professional:
Once you finalize SEO professional or SEO Company, trust their skills. Also you need to trust their knowledge and experience. Do give them freehand to work on their methodology and indulge yourself in learning basics about their methodology and approach. You can discuss the blueprints they prepare for your website, in detail with them. This will help your SEO professional in gaining your confidence and also will help you in reaching a comfort level with your SEO professional.

·         Have reasonable / realistic expectations about your SEO project:
SEO can’t work miracles irrespective of their experience and past track record. Especially if the site is new, it may take months to really see traffic building up because of SEO work. So
its quite unfair on your part to expect your website appearing in top 10 search results thin a month of SEO work done. This is the reason why a good SEO professional DO NOT guarantees any results for the SEO job.

·         Be patient with the results and be realistic:
SEO is not a fuse wire which can trigger a chain reaction and your site will be bombarded with huge traffic in a matter of time. You need to be patient with SEO. It takes time to implement SEO as it’s a scientific approach and can be implemented after taking a series of steps, each requiring thorough analysis. The approach implemented by a SEO professional may take time to get indexed properly and it may take a little while to get appreciation by
search engines in terms of rankings.

·         Work in detail with SEO and treat him as a partner:
You need to detail SEO about every minute thing related to functionality of your business so that he can come up with a decent research on keywords. Talk to him about the nature of business, customer behavior, product range, your competitors, target group / area. Based on the information provided by you, SEO can pick right sets of keywords and can boost your website rankings and get the right traffic.

·         Be ready to pay for quality work:
Choose a SEO professional / SEO company based on the track record. Once zero in on any professional based on the capabilities, then be ready to pay for the quality work which you expect from him. “If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys”. There are plenty of people who are ready to do SEO in a couple of hundred dollars. Their job is just to stuff keywords and create metas and they are done. So my advise is be cautious while picking SEO and be ready to pay for quality work as it is something which is going to bring in more MOOLAH to your business and your growth depends on this.

·        Do not hesitate taking an elementary class from SEO professional about SEO approaches and methodologies:
Learn the basics of SEO from SEO professional working on your project. It takes little efforts but the reward is quite satisfying. You will not be in dark about the SEO progress and you will attain a comfort level with your SEO professional.

·         SEO is not a one time effort:
SEO is not doing a one time job and then sit and wait for the results. You can equate it with the regular marketing and sales efforts. You need to keep refining the approach based on the results which you get crawl after crawl. You need to measure finite parameters and   make changes in your website / content / visuals accordingly so that you get better and   better visibility. After the work is done, its about putting in time & efforts to sustain rankings and continue taking actions for improve rankings.

·         The success of your business does not depend entirely on SEO:
This is one of the most important points. Do not rely on SEO for generating more revenues and increasing your business reach among the potential buyers. A SEO can drive targeted traffic to your website, however he can not force visitors to buy from you whether its service or any product. The actual SALE entirely depends on your product line, service levels you offer, after sales service, product / service pricing and many other factors. So its unfair to hold SEO professional responsible if you are not getting desired jump in sales even after increase in traffic to your website.

For People Who Want To Get Serious Website Traffic While Spending No Money Of Their Own

October 26, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

Here is a simple but extremely powerful website traffic generation strategy that will help you to drive hundreds if not thousands of targeted website visitors every day to your product sales page.

The common strategy that is used by many internet marketers is to directly drive their website visitors to their sales letter. This can be extremely difficult and the reason is that people do not visit internet to purchase products and services. The main motive of anyone who visits internet is to search valuable information.

If you directly send a visitor to your product sales letter there is a high possibility that he will leave your site instantly. This will affect conversion ratio of your website tremendously.

To improve your website conversion ratio you have to create killer content for your website. Quality unique content is the king. If you create hundreds and thousands of unique quality pages on your website, top search engines will give you tons of free targeted traffic for years to come.

“But how can I earn money by giving free content?” – I can hear you saying…

Create quality content on your website and then sidetrack your visitors to your product sales page. This solves five purpose…

1. You get free traffic from search engines as your website contains quality content.

2. It is extremely easy for you to get visitors to your website. The reason is you are not selling them something but instead you are providing something valuable for free which is high-quality content.

3. Due to quality content on your website you get repeat traffic. Your visitors keep coming to your website to check for new content you have added.

4. Due to all this quality information your visitors start trusting you and he respects your knowledge. As a result of this he will purchase your products and services open mindedly.

5. This will skyrocket your website sales conversion ratio through the roof.

These are some of the many benefits you will enjoy creating quality content on your website on daily basis. But make sure that your website includes unique theme based quality content.

If at all you are writing articles make sure that you do not include the articles that you are submitting on article directories on your website. Instead what you should do is to rewrite your articles and make it unique and submit this unique article on your website.

Make sure that you start creating content for your web site starting today. You will probably end up with thousands of pages of quality content stuffed with keywords a year from now. This will help you to boost your web site traffic beyond your wildest dreams. You can thank me later.

Staying in Twitter’s Good Graces While Building Followers Fast

October 26, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

If you are fairly new to Twitter, there are probably some things about it you don’t yet know, but that you need to know. Where Twitter is concerned ignorance is NOT bliss. In fact, break a rule or two and you can get your Twitter account suspended. I have not personally experienced this, but have seen many suspended accounts in a few short months of tweeting. Just from that casual observation I can tell you I don’t want to experience it!

OK… so your Twitter account is open and you have a few followers but you would like to have a lot more. As you look around on Twitter you see people with thousands of followers. In fact, about mid-month April 2009, one Ashton Kutcher became the first member of Twitter to have over one million followers. How did he do that? I haven’t a clue, but how to get one million followers is not what this article is about. I just wanted to point out that having a lot of followers is possible, if you do it right.

There are some guidelines at Twitter that you will need to observe. The first one is to realize that Twitter forces you to start slow. You need to try to balance your followers with those you are following. I’m not talking about the need to follow who is following you, but that the number of followers and those you are following stay fairly close. This is most important while those following you total less than 2000. Until you get to that number you will not normally be able to follow more than 2000 yourself.

Start by following people you know. Follow all of them as they are likely to follow you back. Then start to add others, that you don’t know, but might like to know. You can use Twitter’s search feature to find people with interests similar to yours. Follow them, but don’t follow too many each day. You will probably be ok to follow 50 new each day, or 10% above the number of your followers, whichever is larger. Once you get past the 2000 block imposed by Twitter you will be able to step this up a bit, but in any event you probably won’t want to follow more than 15% above the number of people following you. Twitter has some sort of stop in place, but they don’t let that out. Let’s assume you get to 5000 followers. That means you can follow around 5750. Since about 1/3 of the new people you follow will follow you back, that means of the 750 above 5000 about 250 will follow you back. Having a few over 8000 following me, I am following a little over 9000.

I don’t use any sort of qualifying to select who I will follow, except I follow people following interesting people. I make the assumption there will be common ground. I try and follow all the new people I am going to follow on Friday, and stop following all who are not following me back each Thursday. That way I am covering the weekend users and giving the weekday users several days to follow me back.

OK… time for some personal bias. I don’t follow anyone who does not have a picture posted to their Twitter profile. It does not necessarily have to be a picture of them, but there must be some picture posted. My reasoning here is that if they won’t even take the time to put up a picture, they probably are not serious about Twitter and probably won’t be around very long. Most of the time I won’t follow those who don’t have a person’s name. I like to avoid the strange ones out there. I also won’t follow any one with evidence of any sexual overtones. If I see any profanity in their posts I immediately un-follow. I don’t follow anyone with any sort of title in their name line, especially Dr. or PHD. The reason is simple… my experience has been that they don’t follow back.

All you really need to do is set a regular somewhat conservative routine of following and un-following and you will be into the big numbers before you know it. Happy Tweeting!
