People are bragging about how much money they are making from the Google AdSense affiliate program… But, you’ve been at it for awhile and you still haven’t seen a big commission check in the mail yet…
With these seven AdSense affiliate tips, you can increase your AdSense income… Up until now, no one has ever pointed out what may be preventing you from reaching your earnings objectives. Could it be that you’ve been given the wrong information?
We’ll look at seven mistakes that AdSense publishers make and how they should be handled. And don’t worry; the suggestions for improvement are within the AdSense terms of service so you won’t get banned from using them. After you are done reading about these mistakes, you should be able to identify if you need to make the necessary changes to your site.
So then, here are the seven mistakes AdSense affiliates make and tips to correct them…
(1) Creating Sites for the Purpose of Showing AdSense Ads
M.F.A. or “Made for AdSense,” is the other term which people use to describe a site which was built for the purpose of earning AdSense affiliate commissions. The primary purpose wasn’t to serve the people of a niche market online. No. The site was created for the owner to make easy money from people who click ads because there is nothing else of value on that site. No content, no real products being sold…
Tip #1: If you have a thin affiliate site, then start thinking about the market you are targeting and fatten it with information most helpful to them.
(2) Placing Ads on Blinds Spots
When the web was young, the 468 x 60 pixel banner ads where on almost every site…usually at the top before the real content below. They were effective back then, but Internet surfers have become so used to them being ads, that now a days they ignore anything in that location. So, placing AdSense ads in this region doesn’t get as many click thrus.
Tip #2: The best places to place your ads would be within the written content; however testing will give you a scientific answer to exactly where your site will get the most clicks.
(3) Making AdSense Ads Look Like Ads
People tend to ignore anything that looks like an ad. The AdSense Setup tab in your account allows you to change the colors of the words, borders and background of the ads you will place on your site. If you choose colors that clash with the colors of your site, then it will draw negative attention to those ads.
Tip #3: For your ads, you should use colors which blend in with the color and content of your site.
(4) Not Knowing Where a Click Came From
People aren’t using what AdSense calls “Channels” to help publishers track click-thrus. These channels are assigned by you and help you figure out if clicks are coming from a specific ad format, region of your web page or an entire site. With this click thru data, overtime it will help you determine which placement works out the best or which needs improvement.
Tip #4: Take a closer look at the features available on your AdSense Setup tab and start creating and adding channels to your AdSense ad codes.
(5) Optimizing a Site with the Wrong Keywords
Money from the AdSense program comes from advertisers who use Google’s AdWords advertising system. They bid on keywords for placement and one of the ways price is calculate is by how much competition there is for that search term. The greater the competition in general, the higher will be the price. Which means, AdSense affiliate sites that have content with those keywords will most like be paid higher for clicks. If a site is on a less popular topic, then those keywords will return a smaller commission.
Tip: #5: To increase the pay a click delivers, make sure the content you have on your site is appropriately optimized for the higher paying keywords. Many tools are available online to help you discover the profitable keywords or keyword phrases that should be on your site.
(6) Killing Potential Affiliate Sales
AdSense wasn’t meant to replace the income a website can generate with your main products or the other affiliate products you are promoting. The only exception would be if your site focuses on providing pure information. Having AdSense links will make it easier for any potential buyers to leave your site. You may earn a few cents when the visitor leaves your site, but you may have made a few dollars if the visitor stayed and turned into a buyer. Sometimes AdSense ads will out perform the product you are selling directly.
Tip #6: To find out if AdSense or your main product makes you more money, you have to do some testing and tracking.
(7) Not Collecting Opt-ins
Even before email marketing was born, a mailing list in the offline business world generated billions of sales for mail-order and direct marketing companies. Successful businesses online regularly collect opt-in email addresses to stay in contact with their customers and send them promotional messages to generate additional backend sales and profits. Many sites built to make money displaying AdSense ads don’t make the effort to also collect the email address of their potential customers. Try not to make that mistake.
Tip #7: Put up an opt-in form on your site and offer your visitors a free report related to the topic of your site so you can collect their email addresses.

The Cluetrain Manifesto asserts that “Markets are Conversations.” The Manifesto is a document published in 1999 and 10 years later is still considered to be an outstanding treatise on the Internet phenomenon – in regards to the impact and opportunities of Internet and web technology on the modern businessman. Nowhere has this assertion been borne out more than in the complex, fascinating world of Social Media Marketing (SMM).
What is Social Media Marketing?
Any definition of SMM requires an understanding of social media networks. These are any community-oriented networks based on user-generated content. For example, YouTube’s primary focus is the hosting of user-generated videos, not the promotion of the parent company’s products. Social media networks include Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, and many others.
SMM therefore is the use of these networks to promote and market products, services, or information to the promoter’s intended audience. This could be a traditional product seeking a market, such as an author promoting a new novel. Or it could be something much bigger; the US Presidential campaign of 2008 brought Twitter into the spotlight as a way for the candidates to quickly transmit a message to their audience, keeping them updated on happenings on the trail. In the latter case, no tangible product was being promoted per se, but it was a means of marketing the candidates and their messages. Twitter exploded in popularity following the election, and remains a current topic of discussion.
The intelligent business strategy will seek to understand these opportunities, and reach out to the social media markets available, in order to directly reach their customers. SMM has as many pitfalls as opportunities, however. Several politicians have had their tweets made public, and have regretted it. Here are some easy mistakes to make and how to avoid them.
Mistake #1 – Not Having A Blog
Everyone has a blog. While this may not be true in fact, it certainly is true in perception. Free services such as Wordpress and Blogspot allow anyone with a connection to have a voice in an organized and attractive form. Twitter, Facebook, and other networks are useful, but they aren’t directly under a user’s control. A blog, however, is, and the savvy marketer will take advantage of that. In a blog, a user can post their thoughts, analysis, and arguments with very little restraint and go into greater detail than most social networks permit. For example, Twitter only allows posts of 140 characters, which is certainly too small for a product description or a dissection of a major political speech. However a short ‘tweet’ telling book fans that their favorite author has been interviewed by a blog will bring people flocking to the site where they will not only read the interview, but probably the many other articles on the site as well.
This of course means that good blogging is consistent blogging. A blog can’t be neglected and only updated when big things happen – the modern attention span of Internet users is fairly short. Bloggers need to consistently post good content in order to keep drawing in their intended audience; not month by month but sometimes even day by day.
Mistake #2 – Not Branding Yourself
The web is an information explosion and getting anyone to notice a product or a company consistently is a challenge. The savvy web marketer must take advantage of the chance to brand their name with every networking opportunity. If a company has a blog and a product website, they must be connected. The blog must promote the site’s main goal, and the site must refer visitors to their excellent blog content. Posts to social networking sites should refer to this ‘brand’ image, and keep the message consistent across them all. The successful SMM campaign will treat each element as a unified whole, and approach them systematically. Every Twitter message, every Facebook post should remind users who is posting the content, and where they can find more.
Mistake #3 – Not Being Nice
As mentioned above, “Markets are Conversations.” The users on the Internet are not robots. They will respond with a pre-programmed action when a certain combination of criteria is applied. They are people with ideas who think critically, and who have become accustomed to having their say. While a marketer must take every opportunity to promote their message, this does not mean forcing it into every single conversation. Participants on social networking sites will quickly identify the more ham-fisted efforts of some marketers, and let their acquaintances know of their displeasure. A bad reputation can spread quickly on the Internet – a certain St. Louis police officer lost his job when a video of the officer abusing his authority was posted to Google.
So the proper tactic is not to view these markets as simple places to advertise, but places to converse. Simply popping onto Facebook and posting a new product to every available group is a quick way to get noticed, and disregarded as incompetent. On the other hand, a user could join several groups with discussions pertaining to the subject of their personal passions, and cultivate friendships and a reputation as a quality commentator. Then, when they refer folks to their blog, they are more likely to be taken seriously. Simple courtesy and respect for the groups can go a long way to securing a few more hits per post.
In essence, SMM requires thought, persistence, and critical thinking just as any other marketing campaign. It is not a short series of clever commercials that can be aired for several months at a time, but a means of consistently communicating, day in and day out, with a target audience. Good SMM must provide constant, consistent content for its target markets and be prepared to participate in a lot of give-and-take with an audience uniquely suited to making their voices heard.

The Google search robot comes to these sites more often and spiders them more deeply than if you were, say, focusing your efforts on article syndication alone. The two best examples that i use daily are technorati and icerocket. Every time you publish an article on your site, create some tags for your keywords pointing to icerocket and technorati repctively. These article is about how to make money online, to tag technorati you need to place a tag like this within your post http://www.technorati.com/tags/make+money+online, and an icerocket tag will look like this http://www.icerocket.com/tags/make+money+online. Both these sites need to be referenced from your site in order for them to spider it. But doing these will ensure that your tugged keyword is placed near the top of their pages, thus guaranteeing you the traffic that you need.
Before we go to part three of these series, it would be prudent for me at this time to inform you of the second most important tactic that i use to make money online. You may not be privy to these but at this point you may want to know that there are two different types of websites that saturate the web i.e. the static and the dynamic website. A static website is the most common. The information on this kind of site does not change and it does not improve once the owner uploads the site on his server. It stays constant. Then there is the new version of websites taking the web by storm. These are refered to as blog based websites. I use Wordpress, it is a very stong content management system, if you really know how to use it. These platform allows me to interact with ezinearticles, technorati, icerocket and others in ways that would not be possible with a static site.
Search engines love blogs, it is the freshness of their content that brings their spiders to blogs. People love them also as they build communities around the various niches, and as you may well know, an interacting community is targeted and ready to buy your products since your credibility is guaranteed. I will have to advise you here though, download the recent wordpress software at their site. At this time that am writing this, the most recent is 2.5.1, the wordpress hosted blog has so many limitations and will not work well for you since you may not be able to tweak it in a way that will not be noticeable to your clients.
