Choosing the Best Location for Your New Blog

November 19, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

When businesses or freelancers decide to create blogs to supplement their websites, one question always pops up: “Where should the new blog be located?” Or in other words, should the blog be integrated into the preexisting website, or should it reside in a subdirectory, a subdomain, or on a completely new domain?

As you can imagine, the answer to this question is never straightforward. And it depends on several factors such as cost of implementation, search engine optimization concerns, and type of content.

If you opt to integrate your blog into your preexisting website, you will likely have larger development costs than either of the other options, because you will have to modify the existing website. You will also be restricted in terms of what content you can publish, because of the connection with the website.

However there are some great advantages to be had. First, you can use one content management system (CMS) to manage your entire website. And second, you will be able to take advantage of easy sharing of pagerank between pages, as well as increased ability to get traffic and target keywords.

Example:

Placing your blog in a subdirectory is similar to the website integration option, except that development costs will not be elevated because the preexisting website will not have to be modified, and a separate CMS would be used. You could also get away with slightly different subject matter, assuming that your blog design shows a marked difference between itself and the website.

Example:

Sometimes subdomains are an ideal choice. In addition to operating the blog as a completely new site, subdomains are great for branding because the visitor can always find the main website.

One key advantage for using subdomains is that they can be used for different topics. For example, our website is about web development. We could create a subdomain called “hosting” to focus on hosting packages, or “print” to showcase print design. And everything would still be recognized as part of “Velvet Blues”. Google does this all the time. It’s main website features the search engine. And its products are typically on subdomains. (ie. maps.google.com, groups.google.com, etc…)

At times, some people have chosen to place their blog on a new domain. The main benefits of placing a blog on a new domain are (1) the ability to choose a domain which better reflects the subject or keywords, and (2) the ability to create a blog which doesn’t have an obvious connection to your new site with regards to design or content. Some people also argue that a higher pagerank can be achieve by linking back and forth between two different sites.

In our case, we chose to integrate the blog into our website. In many ways, this was the obvious solution. We were already using IntelBuilder Social Media Platform as a CMS, and wanted the flexibility of using the same CMS for both the blog and the website.

Which option do you think is best? Do you see any obvious benefits for using either of the options?

One of the questions I see frequently asked on online discussion forums is, “Can You Really Make Money from Blogging?” People want to know if there’s some way to profit from the time they spend maintaining their web logs or personal online journals. My answer is an emphatic “YES,” because I do it… everyday!Today I’ll share with you how I do it.Let me begin by saying that I don’t make thousands per month from MOST of my blogs. SEO Secrets Revealed – 6 Organic Factors That Determine your Google’s Rank

November 12, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

Search engine use complicated secret formulas to determine the website’s rank on their lists. It’s called ranking algorithms. Because of the true algorithm is hidden, then many SEO experts keep discussing about what is works and what’s important to affect website’s rank in search engines. I’ve summarized what I believe to be the best advice in 6 points.

HTML page title. This is the most important factor in search engine ranking algorithms. Your page title should be relevance with the content, and put your targetted keyword there. Optimizing your page titles is one of those activities that will quickly affect the way your listing look in the search engines.

Visible HTML text on the page should contain the keyword. SEO pros insist that you need 250 or 1000 words on a page and that 5 to 10 percent of these words must be your target keywords. This percentage is called keyword density. You should use as many keywords and write your content clearly and make sense for the readers.

Inbound links, both the quantity of the links and the quality of the website linking to you. They indicate a page’s quality, popularity, or status on the web. Links with the most quality power to boost rank are links from home page and links from authority pages in the community, meaning pages with collection of supported links from other websites covering the same topic.

Inbound link anchor text also can boost your page’s ranks. Anchor text, is the text that is clickable on the web. It is an important factor in search ranking algorithms. Combining this keyword-rich anchor text with relevant text can make a good effect.

Age of domain is also used by search engines to determine websites rank. Older domain name will be easier to making their way up the ranks than newer ones.

Lesser factors is things like meta tags, image alt tags, page url, etc. also can influence your ranking. Problably hundreds and possibly even thousands of factors in its algorithm.

Blog Content Syndication Tips

November 3, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

Have you started a brand new blog and you are wondering why nobody is visiting your blog, even though you have been dutifully posting content on a regular basis? You see, your blog is like any regular website – you need to get the word out that your blog is online before anyone will start visiting your blog.

The best advice I can give you is to do the SEO part of your blog right. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. Most blog software like Wordpress is already search engine optimized. That means with minimal tweaks, your blog is already search engine friendly. What is challenging for most bloggers is that they find it hard to build inbound links.

Inbound links is a big part of SEO. These are links that are pointing to your blogs from external sites. They can come from other websites, blogs, forums, web directories, etc. But since you have no control over these blogs, you must have a strategy to somehow get others to link to you. Now there are many link building methods that you may wish to try out. One link building method that is gaining popularity quickly is Blog Content Syndication.

Blog content syndication works in a similar fashion as article marketing. The idea is to contribute to other blogs, and in exchange for the content, you will get 2 or 3 inbound links. These links can be anywhere within the content, with your target keywords.

Your target keyword phrase is very important. For instance, if you are aiming to get better rankings for “Blog Promotion”, then your anchor texts should be “Blog Promotion”, and not “Click Here”, or “Visit Website”. Anchor texts are the texts within your links.

Many new bloggers believe that once they build the blog, the visitors will come. So they keep adding new content regularly, firmly believing that fresh content will attract the attention of the search engines and flood their blogs with tons of traffic. It wouldn’t take long for them to realize that it’s not going to happen.

A new blog, like any new website, has to be promoted for it to start receiving traffic. When it comes to blog promotion, there are many ways of doing it. A blogger can try to network with other bloggers, submit some quality articles, or promote the blog on a bunch of web directories. All these methods involve link building.

The key idea here is to build as many inbound links as possible so that (1) the links will send traffic directly, and (2) the blog will start to rank well in the search engines. All the major search engines pay a lot of attention to inbound links. However, do be careful not to get your blog associated with low quality websites. That may hurt your blog instead of helping with the rankings.

Today, more and more bloggers are turning to what is know as Blog Content Syndication. The idea of posting content on other blogs is not new. You can post your links on other blogs by blog commenting, or by being a guest poster. You may even buy a blog post. A paid blog post is when you pay a blogger to include an article with links pointing to your own blog.

Blog Content Syndication works in a similar fashion as article marketing. The concept is simple enough – get your content out to as many relevant blogs as possible. That will help drive targeted traffic to your blog, and help you achieve the search engine rankings that you want.

Do You Know How We Can Make Money From Blogging?

November 3, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

One of the questions I see frequently asked on online discussion forums is, “Can You Really Make Money from Blogging?” People want to know if there’s some way to profit from the time they spend maintaining their web logs or personal online journals.

My answer is an emphatic “YES,” because I do it… everyday!

Today I’ll share with you how I do it.

Let me begin by saying that I don’t make thousands per month from MOST of my blogs. However, I do have many making hundreds. Since I don’t put in a lot of time maintaining them, and I enjoy blogging, I consider the money a bonus. I blog while sitting in my yard with my laptop (on a wireless connection)… watching the clouds roll by.

Another bonus I get from blogging is that it helps my regular websites that are set up as my “money machines.”

The search engines visit my blogs more often than they visit my regular sites, and they follow the links from my blogs pointing to other sites. Some of these links point to my sites, and some point to sites of partners. This does help the search engine rankings of these sites MASSIVELY.

How Do I Monetize My Blogs?

I monetize my blogs by creating blogs on topics people are searching for… and that they are spending money on. I know which niches are hot to an extent based upon what my research proves pay-per-click advertisers are willing to spend their advertising dollars on.

I run Google AdSense ads on my blogs. You can visit www.bloggers-guide-to-profit.com  I simply insert these ads in my menu bar and other strategic places on the webpage. I also experiment with other paid advertising on my blogs.

I sell affiliate products from my blogs. I simply find affiliate products at places like PayDotCom.com and Commission Junction. I incorporate these into my blogs. I do things like product reviews, how-to articles, etc. You can also locate suitable affiliate products by typing your target keywords + “affiliate program” at any major search engine. This should point out numerous websites with suitable affiliate programs to you.

How Do I Setup/Host My Blogs?

I have blog hosted on some of my own domains using Moveable Type. This is just one of many great pieces of blogging software. You have other choices… my programmer recommended this one to me.

I also have blogs hosted for free on Blogger.com. I have them on Blogger.com because they are incredibly easy to set up and maintain. A secondary reason I have them on Blogger.com is that Google OWNS Blogger.com and they index webpages hosted on their servers OFTEN and FAST!

The secret to getting Google and Yahoo! to visit your blogs often is a technique called “blogging and pinging.” It’s a method of notifying all of the major search engines, and blog directories, each time that you update your blog. The search engines come to take a look and they follow links from your blog to spider other blogs/sites. It’s very powerful.

I won’t go into too many details on blogging and pinging here. If you want more information on that topic I invite you to drop by my free, Internet marketing discussion board and ask any and all questions! It’s at:

Examples of Profitable Blogs?

I know, you want to see examples of profitable blogs :-)

To show you how simple it can be I’ll show you just ONE. It s less than 2 months old :-)

The problem is that as soon as I show a site to anyone as an example, it’s instantly ripped off. So, I’m going to “sacrifice” one making me about $60 per day from affiliate product sales and about $20 per day in AdSense revenue. That site is at:
http://cure-nail-fungus.blogspot.com

The above site currently ranks Number 6 on Yahoo for the term “cure nail fungus.” It’s a small niche but one that makes me $2400 per month… just from that one blog.

If you searched on the same term at Google, this site is not very highly ranked. However, THIS page is Num ber4:
http://www.chitterlings.com/no-more-nail-fungus.html

That happens to be one of my pages too :-) I won’t tell you what ALL I’m up to on that page… that’s another article. The technique involves using your own domains to promote affiliate products rather than advertising someone else’s domain… so it improves your link popularity.

I’m not going to show more of my blogs because that just invites competition. Instead, I’m going to answer another question you have to be wondering…

“How do I find time to maintain all of these blogs, even if they are profitable?”

Well, first of all, I don’t really need a lot like the “sacrificial lamb” that I showed you above to keep me satisfied.

I do have a number of secret weapons though. One is called Auto logger. You can check it out at:
http://WillieCrawford.com/auto-blogger.html

What Auto logger does is allow me to queue up a number of posts for my various blogs in advance. It lets you queue up “articles” which can really be anything you want. Then you tell the software at what frequency to make a post.

My Auto logger account allows me to automatically post to an UNLIMITED number of blogs.

WARNING: A program like Auto logger can get you in trouble if you misuse it! If you use it to spam or abuse the search engines, it’s just going to get you banned. If you use it to abuse the blog hosts, they’re just going to delete your blogs.

Here’s how I use Auto logger:

I have sites where I discuss Internet marketing… as just one example. On these sites I share many of my articles and tidbits. I simply queue up these articles/tidbits to post at a given frequency. This frequency can be a set number of hours, days, weeks, or months. So theoretically, I can set up a blog, pre-schedule 50 posts, and not touch it in months, while it is automatically posted to for the next 50 intervals.

Auto logger even lets you set it to start rotating through the posts again when they run out, if you want to. I personally wouldn’t do this since you’d just be posting duplicate content.

Auto logger allows you to insert RSS feeds right into your blog posts. So in addition to posting articles you can also auto-update by adding new RSS feeds at a set interval. Since I HATE sending my traffic to other sites (without reciprocation), these RSS feeds generally pull from MY sites. That way, my traffic is only sent to my other sites.

If you don’t even feel like queuing up a lot of posts, you can go to a site like Elance.com and hire someone else to do it for you… or just hired your kids to do it for you. It can be as easy as you want to make it.

OK, I’ve just proven to you that you can make money off of blogs. In-fact, you can make more money than many people make off of their REGULAR websites. It just takes a little thinking outside the box!

It also takes not being too greedy. You can log on www.blog-link-generator.com What I just showed you works for me because I’m not doing anything that’s likely to get me banned from the search engines, Google AdSense, Blogger.com, or any affiliate program. It’s only when you get carried away, and do things that harm the search engines that you “shoot yourself in the foot.”

Set up blogs providing useful content. Make regular posts to these blogs but not in a manner that seems unnatural. By that, I mean don’t auto-post twenty times in an hour, or post every hour for a month! No human can possible post to a blog at these rates for long, so the search engines detect something is “wrong.” They don’t generally prohibit you from using tools to make your job easier… just don’t get carried away!

There are actually, thousands of people earning a living doing things similar to what I just shared… but with little twists. I’m meeting up with many of them in New Orleans in September. You’re invited to join us. We’ll basically be sharing how we make a fortune off of niche websites and programs such as Google AdSense.

Seven On-Page SEO Tips That Work For Your Website

November 2, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

Search engine optimization is an emerging technology that keeps websites search engine friendly and ranking well. An optimized website will help generate more traffic and attract more potential clients. On-page optimization is one of the most essential elements to the SEO process and cannot be ignored at any level of your website. If your web designer or developer is ignoring on-page optimization techniques, then they are not working with your best interests in mind. Here are seven On-Page SEO tips that will work for your website.

Proper meta tags will help the search engines understand your website. Meta titles help people search for your individual pages by name, and meta descriptions will help people find your website by topic. Use your keywords to make meta tags accurate and descriptive.

Add new content to your website on a regular basis. We recommend adding an article or blog  post a day in order to gain higher rankings. Search engines prefer larger sites over smaller ones, so new content for them to feed on is much appreciated. </p>

Target keywords which accurately describe your business/service/product/brand. Use these keywords throughout your headlines, subheadings and body copy with a proper keyword density of 2.5%. If you ‘keyword-stuff’ your content, chances are the copy will drive people off your site.

Avoid unnecessary javascript and flash. Search engines have difficulty with flash websites and will not acknowledge or accredit any of its content toward ranking. This would be referred to as a ‘waste of space’ to the spiders who are crawling you.

Build backlinks from quality, relevant websites. If you are a dermatologist, you may want to link to the products and brand sites that you are selling. You wouldn’t want to link to a company who sells hair gel, or were just sued by PETA for testing on animals.

Submit your website to the most relevant categories of various directories. Ensuring that your website is categorized correctly will only help your rankings.

Avoid Blackhat SEO techniques. Everyone has been tempted to cheat at least once in their lives, but hopefully you got that out of your system in grade school. Google does not take kindly to cheaters. You will be caught and risk being banned from the Internet. Yeah, it’s like that.

If you implement these SEO techniques well, your site’s ranking will improve on Google, Yahoo, Bing and any other search engine. This will also help your traffic increase and draw more of your target audience to consider your business and brand for their next investment.

5 Steps For Blog Posts go Viral on Twitter

October 27, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

When it comes to increasing your blog reader base and driving more traffic to your posts, there are few platforms more effective than Twitter. Twitter is an excellent tool for connecting with your readers and building a rapport. All businesses should use Twitter as a part of their marketing and branding strategy. For bloggers, knowing how to use Twitter effectively can lead to unbeatable exposure. Here are 5 steps any blogger can take to get his posts to go viral on Twitter.

1. Increase Your Followers

Obviously it’s going to be challenging to get your tweeted posts seen by a lot of people if there are only 20 people following you. Your first strategy should be to increase the number of people that are following you. The easiest way to do this is to follow lots of new people. Newbies tend to follow you right back. You can also look up the target keywords in your niche and follow the people who are talking about those keywords on Twitter. It’s particularly helpful to find the users who have a big following in your niche and then try to get them to follow you because they are the ones that will help your content go viral. Avoid following too many people who don’t follow you back because this can make your account look spammy and give you a bad image. Make sure the number of followers you have and the number of people you follow are about the same or at least not drastically different.

2. Become an Expert in Your Niche

Be consistent with your tweets. Regularly link to interesting articles that you think would be of interest to your followers and provide them with value every time. By regularly linking to informative articles in your niche, your followers will begin to look to you as a great source of information. This is an effective way to build your brand and it will pave the way for you to tweet your own posts. Your followers will be expecting valuable content since you have already positioned yourself as an expert in your niche.

3. Promote Your Blog

Don’t expect people to find your Twitter page and click on your link. Make the most of Twitter by tweeting your own posts! Treat your tweets as if they were your headline. Make them attention-grabbing and interesting so more people click through. Try posting the same tweet twice at different times of day to make sure you reach all your readers who didn’t see your first tweet. When you post a tweet multiple times, make sure to delete the first tweet so you don’t look like a spammer.

4. Write Interesting Articles for Your Blog

This might sound obvious but sometimes the more obsessed people get with promoting their blog and social networking, the less they pay attention to writing posts of good quality on a consistent basis. When you are just writing to fill up your blog, it shows. Make sure your posts are very informative, well-written, and that they provide unique information your readers won’t be able to find elsewhere.

5. Make It Easy for Your Followers to Re-Tweet Your Articles

After you’ve done all of the above, you have to leave it to your followers to do the rest. To make it easier for your followers to repost your tweets, add a “tweet this” link at the bottom of your tweets. How do you do it? Simply go to http://addthis.com/ and place the bookmarking plugin in your html.

If you aren’t already using Twitter, you’re missing an immense opportunity to give your website/blog good exposure. If you’re looking for a strategy to increase subscribers, traffic to your site, and a loyal reader base, Twitter is an indispensable tool that should play a prominent role in your master plan.

Customer Reviews Average Customer Rating: 4 out of 5 (Out of 50) Mike Grehan, Author — Search Engine Book “Web CEO Suite 4 looks like a real contender. … It is billed as a suite of power packed solutions and it has to be said: it’s impressive and professional. Web CEO not only does rank checking and submitting (as most of these packages do) it also has its own keyword database to tap into.

As it’s an ASP model, this means that you are always completely current and never using out of date software. Each time you log in and get going, you’re using the most recent data every time.

…I can tell you this for sure: this is a real contender in the professional SEO stakes. Do yourself a favour and download the evaluation copy now. I think, like me, you’ll be very impressed at its look, performance and future potential”

Peter Da Vanzo, Editor — Search Engine Blog

“There are numerous search engine optimization packages around, however this is one of the most comprehensive. Unlike similar tools, Web CEO includes inbuilt keyword research software, so you can establish exactly which keywords you need to target before the technical optimization work begins. In all, Web CEO features nine separate website promotion tools. Recommended.”

    Sumantra Roy, SEO— LinkExplore

“I have been optimizing web sites for the search engines for more than 4 years now, and this is the first software that I have seen that does almost EVERYTHING that a web site owner might want it to do. Once you get this program, you can bid good-bye to most of the other programs that you may have used or tried earlier – you won’t need them anymore. Once you get Web CEO, you no longer need to spend hundreds, if not thousands of dollars in purchasing each application separately. Also, if you hate programs that have a steep learning curve, you will be pleasantly surprised with Web CEO – it is so easy-to-use that you will be up and running in almost no time. If, like me, you value your time more than anything else, downloading Web CEO will probably be one of the smartest decisions you will ever take for your business.”

    Paul Horner— themexp.org

“ I’ve already recommended your software to a few other SEO guys. I’m even giving a presentation at a local Art Web School about SEO. I’m going to drop WEBCEO’s name to the students. This software has helped me get some of my sites like Themexp.org in the top ten of Google with such huge searches as themes, “desktop “themes”, “windows themes” and “xp themes”. Thanks again for your support. Have a great day!! ”

Morgan Carey AKA SEO GUY, Owner — SEO-GUY.COM

“WEB CEO, I get asked to test and review pretty much EVERY new SEO Software that comes onto the marketplace, and most of the time I do! But honestly the only one I have been compelled to write a testimonial for was WEB CEO.

The ranking tools make reports and quick rank tracking a breeze and the keyword research tool is one of the “must haves” for any good SEO. If you are thinking about buying a high end SEO software, I suggest taking WEB CEO for a spin, you will be glad you did. Cheers”

I now have many of the top positions on Yahoo, MSN and have far improved my position on Google to the 1st, 2nd or 3rd pages for keywords relating to my website. I liked that I could download the IBP trial version to test drive it before I spent my money.

I was so impressed with it that I would have been stupid not to use it. I really liked the way that I could customize the reports for my clients when doing SEO work for them. This aspect alone has won me tens of thousands of dollars worth of fees when using this part of the software.

Dennis Begnoche, Palm Springs Art, says:

“I also wanted to show some of the results I am getting now with IBP. Thanks so much. Never had #1 positions before on Yahoo, Google, MSN, AltaVista. Thanks so much, your program is great.”

    Mike Goodier, LibraTypingServices.co.uk, says:

“I wouldn’t normally get too excited about a product but when something like IBP has pretty much quadrupled your online income, it’s only fair to make it known!

I recently upgraded my IBP, spent a few hours working with it over a two week period and the rest is obvious. [...] Our website is positioned at numbers 5, 1, 2, 2 and 1 respectively! Need I say more?

It’s all due to IBP. IBP has secured us an extremely good position in the hugely competitive Travel market. Thanks Axandra!”

    Jeremy Cobb, NaturalSearchMarketing.com says:

“I’m a professional SEO advisor for a firm that coaches webmasters to dominate in the search engines. I’m an IBP convert from ****, and nothing has helped my clients more.

6 Tips To Help Generate Free Website Traffic

    October 26, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

If you have a website, one of the most important things to do is search engine marketing to help get your website known on the big search engines. The higher your website appears on Google, Yahoo, and MSN for your targeted keywords the better. If you’re looking to generate some free website traffic it’s not difficult to do, you just have to know how to start. Here are 6 search engine marketing tips to help you get where you want to be.

    1. Optimize For Your Target Audience
Search engines are looking for pages that suit your audience’s needs and answer their questions more than anything. By finding out who your target audience is, you can begin optimizing your keyword use and generating free website traffic the way the search engines want you to.

    2. Find The Right Keywords
By doing extensive research to determine the best keywords for your website, you will bring in more free website traffic than planned. You want to use research tools such as Wordtracker, Google adwords, and overture to find out what keywords are best to optimize for your website. After you have compiled a list of the better keywords for your site, then determine what is best for your target audience.

    3. Worthy Content
One of the most important search engine marketing tips is to have content that is fresh and rich to interest your visitors. You want to make sure you provide new and intriguing content to your visitor’s that includes your target keywords. By doing so you will find that you are getting more of a returning visitor base.

    4. Link Trading
In order to get free website traffic you have to trade links with other websites. Depending on the search engines you are looking at, some want quality links that are relevant to your website whereas search engines like Google are looking more for a site that contains a large quantity of links. Do some research to determine what is going to get you more traffic to your website. Either way, the better your website is the more people will want to link to your site without you having to ask.

    5. Avoid Lots Of Graphic
If you want to be high on the search engines and begin receiving free website traffic, try to stay away from large banners and flashing animations. That’s not to say you shouldn’t use a couple here and there, but content is what is going to get you more traffic than anything. Using a large number of graphics just clutters the page without informing your visitors about anything they want to know.

    6. Article Writing
Article writing is one of the best search engine marketing tools. By writing articles you can optimize your targeted keywords, inform readers about your website in a few sentences, and give them your link to your website. After writing articles, you can submit them to article directories or place links to your article on blogs and in forums to spread the word.
