How to Stop Binge Eating With Challenges, Part 2
November 17, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment
6. Challenge yourself to bite off more than you can chew, while learning how to spit.
Decide that you will stop your struggle with binge eating disorder. Instead of expecting to change overnight, remind yourself that it will take time, effort, and patience. The goal of overcoming binge eating is a big one – Know that and never forget it. It’s going to be difficult, but when you take it step-by-step, it is easier.
Don’t set yourself up for failure by expecting to change so much at once. Taking it step-by-step will be more successful than you think.
Figure out little things you can do daily, weekly, or monthly to help build a strong foundation underneath you. Start journaling. Talk to friends. Go for walks. Fight the urge to binge. Step outside of your comfort zone.
All of these things will add up and produce big results. You just have to take it one step at a time.
7. Challenge yourself to be the person you dream of being.
What kind of person do you dream of becoming when you are binge-free? What does that person look like? How does that person act? What does that person do instead of binge eating?
Write down all characteristics of the person you desire to be. Don’t leave anything out. Write down the types of people you will be friends with and what you will talk about. Write down how you will dress.
Just be sure to see yourself as the person you can be without binge eating. Make sure to leave that out and challenge yourself to think about how your life would be when binge eating is not a part of it.
8. Challenge yourself to fall in love with your quirks, flaws, and imperfections.
You cannot be a perfectionist while binge eating. It just doesn’t work and probably leads to more bingeing. Instead of finding and obsessing over your flaws, quirks, and imperfections, learn how to use them to your benefit. Learn how to love yourself and embrace the qualities that you have that might be different than others.
After all, being different is what sets you apart from everyone else… and isn’t that something to be happy about? How boring would our world be if we were all the same?
If we all had the same facial features…
If we all were skinny and looked the same…
If we all had the same bone structure…
If we all believed the same thing…
If we all enjoyed doing the same thing…
Remember, it’s our differences that make the world go ‘round. Rejoice in your differences and find a different angle on your quirks so that you can start to love them.
9. Challenge yourself to learn something new, do it well, and show it off.
When you learn something new and do it well, your mind opens up to other possibilities. You will not become stagnant in doing just what you know. You will step out of your comfort zone and this will do wonders for your self-esteem. As you know, when you improve your self-esteem, you will feel better about yourself, which will help you believe in the fact that you can overcome binge eating disorder.
10. Challenge yourself to have outrageous amounts of fun.
This is a fun one! I mean, who doesn’t like to have fun, right?
Try to add some fun in your life everyday and see how this will affect your total self. I bet you will be happier and will laugh, instead of feeling sorry for yourself and wondering why you are still bingeing. You need to have some fun!
When you have fun, it makes you feel good. When you feel good, you automatically feel better about yourself, regardless of what is going on. It’s an instant booster for your mood, no matter what. And, when you feel better about yourself, you might want to keep that attitude for as long as you can, which would mean having no reason to binge.
When you are having fun, you aren’t not going to think like “Wow, this is so fun… Maybe I should binge and totally destroy my mood.” No! Instead, you will feel so good about yourself and you’ll want to keep those good feeling going for as long as you can.

Acupuncture Marketing – Marketing Your Acupuncture Practice in a Recession
November 16, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment
Marketing your acupuncture practice in a recession doesn’t have to be a struggle. With the right knowledge you can use the internet to tap into a huge source of people who are still actively searching for your services.
While high street sales have fallen dramatically over the last 6 months, internet sales have continued to rise over the same period. More and more people are now using the internet to search for all kinds of products and services, including acupuncture.
Some common acupuncture marketing mistakes:
1) Thinking that just having a website is enough. – If you aren’t listed at the top of the search engines nobody will find your website.
2) Not grabbing your website visitors attention – People “surf” the internet, looking for something that grabs their attention. Research has shown that if they don’t find what they are looking for in the first few seconds, they will move on to the next website.
3) Focusing on features instead of benefit: The focus of your website copy should be to communicate the benefits of coming to you for acupuncture. You should not make the features of your acupuncture clinic the main focus. Think about it, if you’re buying a stereo, you don’t want to know about the gold plated wires, you want to know how great the music is going to sound. Believe it or not, the same goes for acupuncture. People want to know how you are going to help them feel better. They don’t want to know about the history or theory of acupuncture. Some description of these features needs to be there, but this should not be your main focus.
How to do it properly:
There are several key steps that you must take if you want to consistently flood your acupuncture practice with new patients:
1) Find the phrases people are already typing into Google to search for your services. You can do this using the Google keyword tool:
https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
2) Create a professional looking website you can easily edit. You can do this very cheaply using tools like WordPress.
3) Write compelling copy for your website, that turns visitor into customer.
4) Increase your response by offering a free consultation.
5) Get listed for the phrases you identified in step 1 – The trick is to identify the phrases that get enough searches, but where there is less competition. You can then easily get a top ranking on Google.

Link Generation: Building a Free Link Network
November 6, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment
Building links for improved traffic and better search engine position is a critical task many marketers struggle with. This article will show you how to build a whole network of backlinks for free.
The Web is built on links. Obviously the more links you have pointing to your Web pages the more traffic you can potentially receive. Ideally you’ll have a lot of links from sites that are related to yours, thus resulting in relevant & targeted traffic.
In addition to direct traffic, a strong network of inbound links will positively influence your rankings in the major search engines. Again it’s important that your links are coming from content that is related to your site.
One of the simplest and most effective link building tactics is to create a network of free content sites. With just a little work you can have dozens of relevant pages linking back to your target Websites. Listed below are the various elements of just such a link network.
Article Submission
Most people already understand the value of article marketing. But it’s worth mentioning briefly to be sure.
Creating and submitting a large number of articles that contain links back to your Web pages is the ideal way to launch your own content & link network. You can submit articles to directories and contact blog and site owners directly with original articles.
Blogger
Blogger.com is the free blog network owned by Google. Opening an account takes only a few minutes, and then you can create as many separate blogs as you like.
It’s a good idea to create a blog that focuses on only one or two core (and related) topic. And be sure to include good keywords in the name of your blog. This will allow you to link to your site from related content.
Be sure to create a number of keyword rich posts and to add a liberal number of keyword-anchored links from these posts. The Google spiders love Blogger and thus your sites will be indexed very quickly through the links you place from here.
WordPress Network
WordPress.com also has a free blog network. It’s a good ides to open an account here and create a series of relevant blogs, which you can then link to your core sites and to your Blogger posts.
Remember to place solid keywords into the name of your blog. This will be your actual blog domain and will help with search engine optimization and the relevance of outgoing links.
Squidoo.com
Squidoo is a social media authority site. You can open a free account and then create as many lenses as you like.
A lens is a single page authority hub on a particular subject. So you’d want to create one or more lenses around specific keywords related to your primary Websites.
And of course you can link from these lenses to your main domain and many of your internal pages. You can also add the RSS feed for your Blogger and WordPress free blogs directly into your Squidoo lens, thus creating backlinks for those portals as well.
Google Pages/Google Sites
Google Pages is no longer accepting new members, but if you have an old account you never used now is the time to fire it up. Google Sites is now the place where Google free account holders can create free Web pages.
You can create separate accounts here, always using good keywords as your account name will be the actual subdomain name where your free site is located. Then you will be able to build a number of simple, content and keyword rich Web pages that all link back to your other free resources and of course to your primary Website.
In the above scenario, you are creating a multitude of Web pages and blog posts that talk about your core Website. These utilities will all link among themselves to create maximum exposure and to encourage search engine spiders to crawl your entire network.
And clearly each resource will link back to your main business site. This will result in the search engines indexing and ranking you from these free pages, and will also generate a good deal of organic traffic from targeted content.
Building a free link network is a simple process. As long as you apply quality content improved traffic and search engine position is an inevitable result of this strategy.
Free SEO Tips the Pro’s Charge for
November 4, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) both the bane and boon of many a person’s existence. It’s a known fact that the best way to get traffic to your website is by simply having your site show up in the first page or two of the major search engine’s results. Visitors that come in from those search engine results pages (referred to as SERP) have two main things going for them. They are more likely to buy, and they didn’t cost you any money to get there. Getting your site onto those first two pages can be a struggle, and people are always watching what you are doing and gunning for the top spot. You have to keep aware of all of the latest tactics and methods and measure yourself against your competitors.
Yes, competitors. Many people aren’t aware of the competitive nature of SERPs positioning, but it is. Keep in mind that you are ranked in comparison with the other sites in the results. If the search engine thinks that your content is more relevant, then you rank higher, if it is determined that your content is less relevant, then you fall in the results. If they know what they are doing, the other sites showing up for the searches you wish to rank high in are watching you, and the other sites on the first two pages to see what they are doing, and if they are rising or falling.
So how do you ensure that you can rank well against the other sites out there and rise in the SERPs? Well, for starters, let’s assume that there are only three search engines, because frankly, Google, Yahoo, and MSN (in that order) represent the majority, the vast majority of searches. And Google represents the vast majority amongst those three. For the purposes of this article we’ll focus only on Google. If you do right by them, what you do will be good for other search engines as well.
Before we go any further it’s important that you understand the nature of SEO. It is not an exact science. The exalted minds inside the Googleplex do not share their secret sauce with the unwashed masses. The reason for this is simple: if they revealed exactly how their logic works, it would be exploited–this has happened before. The methods for performing SEO are based upon the trial and error of many, many internet users as they worked out what works, what doesn’t and what will get your site unindexed – or worse: banned.
This is important. There are good and bad ways to optimize your site. The bad ways are called ‘Black Hat’. Sure, they may work for awhile, and some Google can’t (or doesn’t bother to) pick up automatically. However you can report a site to Google as using Black Hat SEO tactics and Google will remove that site from the index (meaning it won’t show up in search results). Removing a site from the index is usually only done for a certain amount of time and can be appealable. Banning is far more severe and banned sites are often gone for good with no way to get Google to add it back to their index. Beware of a lot of things that seem shady. If you think they are shady, chances are that the folks at Google will think so too and if one of those other sites in the SERPs wants to rise up and they visit your site and see your shady tactics, they won’t hesitate to report you.
Yeah, it’s a bit unfair, but it’s the world we live in. Google’s not alone in this–the other search engines will do it too.
Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s dive into the two ways to optimize your site.
On Page Optimization
This is what most people think of when they think of SEO. In reality it is the less effective of the two methods, though as Google improves its ability to determine real content from fluff it is getting more valuable. A bit of history first.
Back when people started realizing that they could make or break their business by where they came up in the SERPs, they started adding all sorts of content to their sites to improve their ranking. The most common of these was the meta keywords. These are words that are placed in the code on a website that tell the search engines what the site is about. Way back when the ‘net was young, the search engines believed these keywords. They don’t anymore. People abused the keywords system by putting their competitors names in them, or by even putting completely bogus words in. A site looking to sell more jeans would put Britney Spears in their keywords to get people to visit them inadvertently. Needless to say, keywords play very little importance anymore. I have gotten sites to the #1 position on Google without using keywords at all.
As the search engines got wise to the whole bogus keywords thing, they started looking at all of the content on a website. They can only read text, so images and animated graphics (like flash) were ignored. People learned tactics to place all sorts of text on their site that was invisible to users, but that the search engines (looking at the source code) would see. So search engines started to distrust the websites themselves.
You’re asking yourself how they can know what a site is about then. They asked themselves the same question and came up with an obvious answer: they can’t. But other humans can. This is called ‘Off Page Optimization’ and is covered in the second type of optimization.
They never really disregarded the webpage entirely, but they lowered its importance in their overall factoring of a page’s importance and relevancy. However, as their savvy increases and they have more computing power to analyse content, search engines are starting to consider the page’s content as being more and more important. They can often discern the difference between human generated and computer generated text, and can tell if the content on a page is relevant to a particular topic or not. As they do this more, the page itself will continue to get more important.
There used to be a lot of tactics and tricks to get the search engines to pay more attention to your page, but the number one tip is now this: Write human readable content (don’t try to write it to load it with terms and keywords) that has value and real relevancy. Make sure that you do use the words and phrases you think people will search for, and do use them more than once, but don’t go overboard. Bolding and using larger fonts (and H1 tags) will help as well, but don’t overdo it. If you make your page look too wonky it will not work for the second type of optimization.
Here’s a quick rundown of things to make sure you do.
Make sure the page title is descriptive – make it different with each page if you can
Use the meta description tag and make it good – this is what most search engines show as the blurb about your site on the results page.
Don’t worry alot about your HTML formatting. Search engines are used to reading crappy HTML and they don’t care too much
Make sure you use your keywords in your copy more than once
Do bold them if it works in your content
If you can make it work, use an H1 or H2 tag. If you are comfortable with CSS you can make the text in them smaller (this is becoming less and less important).
Make sure to use alt and title tags on images. It lets the search engines know what the image is about and can cause your images to show up on the Google image search.
Use title tags on your links. It will help the search engines know more about the page you are linking to and improve relevancy
Don’t put too many links to other sites. Links out lower your page’s importance.
Off Page Optimization
This is also called ‘Off Site Optimization’ which is a misnomer. Search engines care little about ‘websites’ and care more about ‘web pages’. The reason for this is that they don’t link to a site, they link to a page. So what is this mysterious type of SEO you ask? Well, if you read the on page part above you will have learned that Google and the other search engines decided that they couldn’t trust the page itself too much as too many people put fake content on a page to generate traffic. So they decided that the best way to know if a page was relevant was to let people do it for them.
How do they make this work? Well, they simply look at who links to you and what their page is about. If your page is about sewing, and another page that Google knows people like is also about sewing and it links to you, then your page is probably not misrepresenting itself. This is the driving force behind what is called ‘Page Rank’. Page rank is essentially a calculation of the importance of the pages linking to you vs the relevancy of your content to those pages. If a page about banking links to a page about peanut butter, then chances are that the search engines won’t assign any importance to that link, but links between pages of similar content have high importance.
There is also a nebulous thing that we know exists, but don’t know how to quantify. It is the matter of how much a search engine trusts a site. Sites with high trust have their outbound links given more importance than sites the search engine does not trust. An easy way to determine if a site is trustworthy or not is to think about it yourself. The folks at the search engines are humans, they will trust the same sites you do and distrust the same sites you do (give or take a bit).
Untrustworthy Sites
Link/Banner farms – sites with nothing but links to various other sites. These used to work, but the search engines wised up and now having a link farm link to you will hurt, not help
Sites with a lot of advertising on them – The search engines know that these sites are mostly computer generated and have no valuable content, and so don’t pay any heed to what they link to.
Black Hat Sites – sites that use questionable SEO tactics aren’t ones that you want linking to you. Google is suspicious of them, no reason to make it suspicious of you
Trustworthy Sites
Directories – There are two types of directories. Automatic and Human verified. Google knows which are which and if your site is listed on a human verified directory (meaning that someone looked at your site and verified that your description and content match the category you chose to have it listed in) then it knows that your content is relevant to the description you gave. Find the directories for your market (just google things like sewing boston directory or whatever your niche/market is and you’ll find some to list in.
News Sites – Many news sites allow you to post comments on them. Don’t spam, but find some relevant articles to your site and post a few comments. Its not advised that you place your link right in the article (unless you think it applies) but rather have your link in your profile.
Sites with high page rank – This is key. There is little point having sites with no page rank link to your site with no page rank. You want sites with high page rank linking to you. Install the Google toolbar and select yes when it asks if you want to view pagerank. This will let you know how other sites rank and help you determine where to try to get links.
There are a lot of other tips and helpful bits of information out there and I’ll be posting a few more specialized articles about them. While there is a lot of bogus software and ebooks out there that will literally tell you no more than what you have read above, there are some that will help you carry out the suggestions above. They’ll suggest directories, give you reports on how well you rank against your competitors and many other things. Most you can do on your own, but they take time. Good SEO software should mainly remove the tedious, manual tasks involved in SEO and help you focus on more important things like niche research and adding actual, valuable content to your site.

Traffic to Your Blog – How to Accomplish It?
November 2, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment
Traffic to your blog, is that what you want? I wanted to take a moment and share the following tips with all you guys on how to increase traffic flow to your blogs and or sies. Its very important that you read the steps below and apply them accordingly.
1) Consistency with your post -Blog frequently
I dont know why so many bloggers hate the idea of the above when its vital to keep the content ongoing. Trust me when I say that the struggle for content is ongoing. New bloggers, however, feel like it’s just happening to them. The truth is, don’t get a blog just to have a blog. Get it and keep it updated. It’s the quickest way to gaining traffic. How often should you blog? Three times a week. The best days to blog? Studies have shown that Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are key days for blogging.
2) Focus and Stay on Track
I tell authors this a lot: stay on point, stay on topic. Why? Because if you don’t you’ll lose readership. Once someone commits to your blog they want to keep reading relevant information. So don’t blog one day about your book, your speaking, or your mission and the next day share Aunt Ethel’s pot roast recipe.
3) Plan your blogs
While spontaneity is the catalyst for creativity, planning is a good way to stay on track. Start to map out key dates that you want to blog about that have some relation to your topic – this way when you’re at a loss for topics, you can always pick one from your list of planned out blogs. Also, consider these topics to blog about:
a) Future predictions: everyone loves these, to the degree that you can predict market trends in your industry do it, and the readership will follow.
b) Discuss industry news: what’s happening in your industry that you can talk about? Even if you’re a fiction writer there’s always *something* going on worth mentioning in publishing, writing, or marketing that directly relates to your topic.
c) The elephant in the room: talk about the stuff that everyone is afraid of. What new trends are emerging that consumers/readers/companies need to be aware of? What’s next for your market and how will it affect the industry? How can we keep publishing books when we already publish 800 a day? You see what I mean? Think of things that frighten you and talk about them. People will respond. Every time I do this I get a ton of comments on my blog.
d) Write reviews: review other people’s books, product or work. This is a great way to network and to become a “filter” for your market. Filter out the new stuff and feature it on your blog (this goes for you fiction writers too!).
e) Other blogs: what are people talking about? What did your favorite blog just say? Virtual networking (with other bloggers) is a great way to grow your content and get to know others in cyberspace. Don’t forget to link to the blog you’re discussing!
4) Invite comments on your blog!
This is really important! The more folks you can get commenting, the quicker your blog will get passed around. If you have a “no comment” feature on your blog, remove it! You want people to be able to comment and give feedback. In fact, at the end of every blog, why not invite readers to comment? If you start getting a lot of responses to this, begin featuring your favorite comments in future blog posts!
5) Comment on hot topics in the news
The quickest way to get traffic is to get your blog featured on a high-traffic site. But how can you do this? By commenting on news stories. Most major news sites have a feature that will list blogs that are talking about the various news stories. Not all blogs get featured but: a) if your if your topic is related to the story they’ve featured; and b) you’ve written an insightful post on the topic, you’ll likely get listed. For an example of what these look like take a peek at a recent story on CNN: http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/law/09/14/simpson/index.html
6) Digg yourself
Make sure that your blog has a bookmarking feature. Sites like Digg and http://Del.icio.us are great places to get started. You can go there, sign up for an account (very easy to do) and then follow their instructions for bookmarking your individual posts. This is important! You don’t want to bookmark the blog but rather, the posts. The posts will then show up in these sites and, hopefully, other folks will bookmark them as well. Even if no one else bookmarks your posts, it doesn’t matter. You can still get traffic by being positioned on these sites. Super simple to do, go ahead, give it a shot!
7) Twitter your blog
Got something to say? Try microblogging at Twitter: http://www.twitter.com. It’s a free service that asks the question: What are you doing now? Go in, sign up and start posting your messages with links back to your blog. We tried this and it’s fantastic. You can also blog from your cell phone and blackberry. You can not only use it to promote your blog but your book, speaking event, whatever you want. It might sound like a “who cares” idea, but trust me, everyone’s Twittering these days.
Syndicate yourself
Using simple RSS feeds through http://www.feedblitz.com you can syndicate yourself and let folks subscribe to your blog. If they don’t have a way to subscribe to your blog, they may forget you altogether. Once someone subscribes, every time you post new content it will notify them. And the best part? Your messages won’t get stuck in someone’s spam filter. They’ll get the notification, head to your blog and voila! Your readership stays engaged and growing.
Finally, don’t use an “official” voice on your blog. Pretend you’re sitting across from your reader over coffee. Talk to them in a more casual, conversational tone and you’ll not only get more readers, you’ll likely get more comments too! It doesn’t take much to grow a blog, just a little dedication and creativity. Happy blogging!

8) Syndicate yourself
