A web log, also known as a “blog” for short, is like an online diary or journal for some, on online multimedia center, article or news announcer and more to others. Basically text-based, blogs are easy to update with posts, and depending upon the type of blog, fairly easy to maintain.
If you choose to set up your own blog with software in your web hosting package, for example, you generally chose a Wordpress blog. Wordpress offers a variety of templates, however, not all templates are compatible with all plug-ins or modules you may want to incorporate into your blog like RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds. So you would either have to learn the skills needed to update your blog as technology and the Internet advance, or you would need to hire help to do this for you so that your blog keeps up with the times.
Blog Content and Features
Regardless of whether or not you hire help with your blog set-up and maintenance, there are many features and benefits for both bloggers and website visitors. For example, many authors can contribute to a blog’s content. So you can set up multiple authors to allow posting access for each one.
Plus you can post multimedia on your blog. Upload digital images, full color graphics, photos and animations, even add audio and video. Helpful for promoting both your business and personal materials, you can share photos as well as presentations that focus on your products, services and any other related information online. Powerful tools for sharing and advertising, blogs are well liked by both search engines and people.
No Experience Necessary
Even if you have no experience operating a static web site, you will find that nearly any type of content can be presented on a blog. Businesses and individuals share stories about trips to in-depth discussions about world politics. And as an added bonus, most blogs even allow website visitors, also known as bloggers, to post their own replies to your blog content or entries, leaving feedback for the blog host to approve or delete as he or she sees fit.
Depending upon the blog tools, other blog features can include:
- Customizable blog templates that can be helpful for creating an attractive display of your content quick and easy.
- The means to incorporate Google™ Ad sense into the blog to generate additional income, helpful for covering your blog hosting fees.
- Additional ways of promotion and SEO (search engine optimization) solutions like adding small banners with interactive links to sidebars.
- A tool for IP banning so that spammers and other troublesome website guests are not able to post unwanted messages to your blogs.
- Subscriber form boxes plus RSS news feeds to enable your blog visitors to return plus inform them automatically of your new blog content.
- And area with blog statistics so that you can review the number of people reading each of your posts.
- Hot keys so that the administrator of your blog can use repeat phrases when posting replies on the blog.
- Automatic email messages when people leave comments and feedback on your blog.
- Survey tools for interaction with your blog guests and help for your future content creation.
- Remote blog capability so you can post directly through your email or a handheld device.
In summary, a blog can be an easy, fast and fun way to establish an online presence with the right blog tools and / or help. With so many awesome features for both blog guests and blog operators to use, it’s no wonder that blogs are so popular today!

Five Quick Tips For Getting Your Blog On The First Page Of Google

November 17, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

It is so easy to make money with a blog. Whether the purpose of your blog is to get traffic to your sales page or to sell affiliate products or to get Adsense clicks, getting your blog onto the first page of Google can be done quickly and easily.
Using the following quick tips you could get listed on the first page of Google for some keywords within a month or two, depending on how competitive your niche is. A video game site that followed these tips got on the first page of Google, in the fifth spot, for a popular search term when the site was less than one month old.
Here are the five quick tips for getting to the first page of Google:
1. Put some original content on your blog. Post at least once a day but not more than every two to three hours. It doesn’t look good if you are posting every few minutes. Continue adding new content regularly. Some of the content can be duplicate content (from an article directory or private label rights articles) but the more original content the better.
2. When you have at least five posts with original content then submit your blog to Google’s sitemap. It’s not hard, and it only takes a few minutes. As long as you have a blog that looks authentic and is not filled with scraped content, this is a good start to getting noticed by Google.
3. Write some original articles and submit them to article directories such as EzineArticles, GoArticles, ArticleAlley, and SearchWarp. Do not submit more than one a day since it is better to not inundate the article directories or they might think you are spamming them. It is very important to have a good resource box with links back to your site.
4. Submit your RSS feed to at least fifty sites. This can be done in less than a couple of minutes using RSS Submit (RSSFeedsSubmit), a great piece of software that automatically submits your feed to more than fifty sites. The price is very reasonable (less than $50) but if you don’t want to spend any money and would rather do it by hand, Robin Good sells a list of 55 RSS submission sites for a very small fee.
5. Get your URL link listed in as many places as possible. Submit your site to directories like DMOZ. Answer questions at answers.yahoo and include your URL with your signature. Leave comments on blogs that are in a related niche to yours, again including your URL in the signature. Do a search with the phrase “keyword add url” and add your URL at sites that allow you to do it for free. “Keyword” would be replaced by one of your keywords for your niche. Submit your blog to Technorati. Submit your original posts to social bookmarking sites like Digg, Netscape, Redit, Plugim, and so on. Be sure to tell friends to vote for your submissions at the social bookmarking sites.
These five quick tips will give your blog a powerful boost and get your blog on the first page of Google in a very short time. Within days you should be getting traffic from Google as you rise in the search engines. And you did it with spending little or no money.

Seo: How Do I Give My Website A Quick Seo Tune Up?

November 15, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

Cars need tune ups and airplanes go into the hanger to get optimized for the next flight. If you are a web owner that has the “upload it and leave it” mentality, consider adding a weekly or monthly tune up to your website. Ten to Fifteen minutes here and there can only do one thing—make you more successful.

1. Start small with the meta information. a. Examine your Title meta tag on each page. Do they describe the page contents? Do they contain the right keywords to drive traffic to that page? Is at least one part of the Title geo-specific? Example, “Attorney, Los Angeles, CA” and not just “Attorney” or “Lawyer” for “My Law Firm.” b. Examine your Description meta tag. Make sure that each page, if it is at all possible, has a different meta tag description. Google does not like repeated information.

2. Check your links. Use a free online program to make sure you don’t have any broken links. Go to your favorite search engine and type in “free link checker” and use one that looks good to you.

3. Do a little marketing. Go to your favorite search engine and search for something you do or sell. Let’s say you are a dentist. Perform two different kinds of searches, global and geo-specific. Example: 1. “dentist,” global and 2. “dentist, (city), geo-specific. Examine the backlinks to make sure that you are also on the same business directories as the top ranked websites. You do this quickly using a “backlink checker.” You can easily find one of your choice through a quick search engine search.

Steps 1, 2, and 3 can be repeated daily, weekly, monthly—whatever your schedule allows. The next 2 steps go a little deeper into your maintenance plan.

4. Google Analytics. It’s free, it’s easy, and it’s extremely useful. If you aren’t paying an SEO company to handle your website, you should definitely take advantage of this amazing tool. You sign up for it here: www.google.com/analytics/. Google will give you a unique code to put on each page you want to track. You don’t need to be a programmer to figure it out. It’s just a few lines of script that you paste into your webpage exactly where Google shows you to do it. It really is as easy as it sounds. And what do you get? You find out how many people are visiting your website, what keywords brought them to your website, what websites referred them to your website, where they are from, how much time they spent on your website and much more. This is an amazing free treasure trove of information. You will find out if the people visiting your website are, in fact, the type of visitor you are targeting. If not, all you have to do is tweak your Title meta tag and your content to let the search engine know, for example: you want people who were searching for “logo design” not “graphic design” or “child therapist” not “couples therapy.”

5. Alexa. Alexa monitors traffic levels for websites, while arguably a flawed system, it is still used as a measuring stick to gauge your website. Why should you care? Let’s say you own a flower store in Boston. You look up your competitor and find that they have an Alexa ranking of 79,000 and you have one of 4,500,000. This is a quick indicator that THEY and not YOU are getting all the flower shop web traffic in the area. Additionally, the more traffic you get, the more likely your organic search engine results will go higher. Marketing activities that increase web visitors will give you a better Alexa ranking. Across the board, SEO experts agree that if you download the “Alexa Toolbar” and visit your website once a day, encourage friends and colleagues to download the tool bar and visit each other’s websites—that this will increase your Alexa ranking, too. It’s a simple thing to do, but don’t expect dramatic results. You can also flaunt your url in Alexa forums, but the best use of your time is simply to try to get targeted visitors to your website through standard marketing channels. That is always the bottom line.

10 Quick Rules For Better Search Engine Ranking

November 14, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

If you are setting up a website, follow these simple rules to improve search engine rankings of your site. You can also follow these techniques if your website is not ranked high in search engines for certain keywords. Concentrate on the home page of your site and once you learn the techniques, you will be able to apply them to the other pages of your site that will have multiple high ranking pages.
1. Find keywords (or key phrases) relevant to your website. Go to the overture keyword selector tool (type key phrase overture inventory in Google) and check the popularity of the keywords you want to use. Avoid highly popular keywords. Highly popular keywords are very competitive and the least popular keywords are search engine traffic starved.
Select a dozen keywords and key phrases from the middle of the list. This is a very important exercise and you should spend at least a couple of hours, if not more, researching different keywords. While you are researching your keywords, check your competitors by doing a search in a couple of popular search engines like Google, Yahoo, etc., using those keywords. Keep a record of your competitors’ urls and other information because you don’t want to waste your time doing the same search again in the near future.
2. Use the keywords you selected into the meta tags of your home page. Meta tags are located in the head section of a web page. Go to one of your competitor’s website and select View and then Source from your web browser’s menu to view the html source of the web page. You will see the meta elements.
The two important meta tags are keywords and description meta tags. Don’t leave them blank. You can list your keywords, separated by comma, in the keywords meta tag. Construct a catchy description using your keywords for the description meta tag.
3. Use the keywords in your title tag. The text you use in the title tag appears in the title bar of the web browser. The title tag should be less than 64 characters long. Again, the key is to use a meaningful title using the keywords. Don’t just make a laundry list of your keywords for the title tag.
The title tag and your meta description may end up in many search engine listings. So, spend sometime to make these two elements interesting, meaningful, and relevant to your site.
4. Use the keywords in top heading (h1) tags of your page. Use one keyword (or a key phrase) for each h1 tag. Use these h1 tags for the headings of your contents.
5. In the home page content, use bold, using the strong html element, to highlight some of your keywords.
6. Italicize some of the keywords in your page.
7. Use the keywords in alt tags of images. You should always use the alt tag for all images.
8. Encourage others to use the keywords for text anchors when they link back to your site. Better yet, publish your own short link text with keyword anchors, bold and italicized key phrases and give it away for link exchanges.
9. If possible, use the keywords in your domain name. Try different arrangements of the keywords to come up with an available domain name that you can register.
10. If you are using php or asp or any other web programming language for your dynamic website, make your url search engine friendly using url rewrite techniques. Search the phrase url rewrite in Google to know more about url rewrite.
Keep in mind these simple rules every time you want to launch a website. Spending a few days upfront in the preparation of your site will pay off in the long run with better search engine rankings.

November 13, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

Today your in for a real treat. WHY? Because I’m going to tell you How-To build “Feeder Pages” search engines simply die for.

And don’t worry, these tips won’t strain your brain to much and are very straight forward, even if your New to the Internet marketing game.

TRAFFIC, as we all know it is the life blood of your businesses VERY existence online, so wouldn’t it be nice if you could tap into some of that traffic, thats targeted Search Engine traffic, absolutely FREE Of Charge?

I bet you said YES!

Well… your in luck because that’s the sole purpose of a “Feeder Page”.

Now, the question that I found that usually arises with “Feeder Pages” is How-To build them correctly.

This was the exact question I had myself when I was first came across this type of website Traffic Generation and is why I’m writing this article.

So, with that said, I hope by the time you finish reading this article you’ll have a good idea yourself of the steps neccessary on How-To build quality “Feeder Pages” of your own that will send you FREE targeted search engine traffic and generate you some Google Adsense revenue as well.

Lets get started. Go to Tip #1.

Tip #1. Make your “Feeder Pages” theme based.

This is an important tip. You must make your “Feeder Pages” the same theme as the rest of your website. What I mean by that is, same template, same navigation, same links, copyright, etc.

By doing this it won’t seem as obvious to your visitor that its a generated page of some sort and will give you a better chance of them clicking through to your main sale pages.

Tip #2. Put quality Keyword Rich content on your pages.

This is yet another important tip you must consider and that is putting quality Keyword Targeted content on your “Feeder Pages” that targets your audience.

Why?

Because you are building these pages for the search engines and since roughly 85% of Internet surfers use search engines as their primary tool for locating the information they’re looking for your going to want to have Quality Content related to your Product or Service waiting for them to draw them in when they find your link within the search engine listings.

Tip #3. Add links back to your website or affiliate site.

This next tip is pretty straight forward. All you need to do is put either a Text Ad(recommended) or some Banner Ads within the “Feeder Pages” in Highly Visible areas and link them back to your main website or Affiliate website.

This is the whole purpose of building these pages in the first place.

Tip #4. Placing your Google Adsense code for $$CASH$$.

Since your doing all this work to generate traffic to your main website why not profit EVEN MORE by adding 3 blocks of Google Adsense code to your “Feeder Pages” just in case your visitor decides not to click through to your website or affiliate site.

And since your “Feeder Pages” have quality Keyword Targeted content on them, your Google Adsense Ads will display targeted ads.

The best places to put your 3 blocks of Google Adsense code is right at the top under your Header graphic if you have one. The next best place is in the upper left sidebar. And the last place is either within the content itself or at the end of the article.

These positions all depend on how you build your “Feeder Pages”, so make sure you plan out where you want to put your Google Adsense code in advance for Maximum PROFIT!

Tip #5. Add an RSS feed to your “Feeder Pages”.

Okay. Here’s the last tip I’m going to share and that is, add an RSS(Real Simple Syndication) feed to your “Feeder Pages”.

By doing this you’ll be putting your “Feeder Pages” on Autopilot, 24/7.

Why an RSS feed?

Simple. RSS feeds deliver and syndicate fresh content, so if you have an RSS feed on your “Feeder Pages” your content will be updated ‘Automatically’ which will then trigger the search engine spiders to schedule routine visits back to your website for more indexing.

Well… there you have it in a nutshell folks.

If you follow what I have outlined above you’ll be on your way to FREE targeted search engine traffic and Google Adsense $$PROFITS$$.

These are just some quality tips I wanted to share with you from my own experience to help you Maximize your efforts if you decide to use this type of Traffic Generation, and to also help take away the Trial and Error process.

Website Traffic-Building: Quick and Easy Monitoring

November 13, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

Every good traffic-building campaign needs to be monitored at every stage.  This is something easily done with Google Analytics.  Just sign up, paste the code into your web pages as instructed, and you’re ready to go.  Beware—if you’re one of those personalities that monitors the daily fluctuations of the stock market, you may find Analytics just a bit addictive.  If you’re a new website owner, get the Analytics program installed immediately.  Down the road, you’ll realize the importance of traffic building activities and will be glad you took this initial step.

There’s no need to hire a programmer–some of my favorite reports are quick and easy to create using Google Analytics.

Create a Market Segment

If you’re a company that caters to local or regional clients, you may want to create an Advanced Segment first.  This will allow you to view any reports—including custom designed ones—as they really apply to your target market.

Under Advanced Segments, create a new custom segment.  For this example, we’re going to create a segment for the territory of Harrisburg, Lancaster, and York, Pennsylvania.

Select Visitors, then slide the “City” dimension over to the report form.  For “Condition” select “Matches Exactly”, then type “Harrisburg”.  Continue this process for Lancaster and York, ensuring that you Add “or” Statement between each.

Then, because some of these cities exist in other states, I will Add “and” Statement and slide over the Region dimension and “Match Exactly” to “Pennsylvania”.

The last step is to name your segment.  In this case, I’m calling it “York-Harrisburg-Lancaster-PA”.  Then click on “Test Segment” to view the results.  You now have the capability of viewing that market segment in any report—custom or canned.  Now let’s monitor your traffic building progress.

Monthly Organic Progress Report

Organic search results are unpaid traffic that is sent to your website from the search results.  To easily view your monthly organic search results, click on “Custom Reporting”, then “Create New Custom Report”.  You’ll notice the same format you used when you created your market segment.

Start with the metrics—slide over the metrics for Visits, Time on Site, Pages per Visit, Bounces and Bounce Rate.  Most of these metrics are self-explanatory except for the Bounce Rate.  The Bounce Rate is important—it’s the percentage of visits that immediately click off your site.  It’s a great indication that either the wrong traffic is being sent to your site, wrong keyword usage, or the site needs some work.

Now, under the Dimensions section, select “Medium” and slide it over to your report.  Medium is the breakdown of organic, referrals, or direct visits to your website.  As a Sub-Dimension, slide over “Month”, then “Keyword” below that.

Be sure to edit the name to something you’ll better recognize.  In this case I’m calling my report “Medium Progress by Month”.  Your report layout should now look something like this:

To finish, select “Create Report”. Save Your Report to the Dashboard. Select your report, then drill down to Organics, then Month.   Apply your market segment filter by selecting the “Advanced Segments” in the upper right corner.  Checkmark the “York-Harrisburg-Lancaster-PA” segment to apply to your custom report.  You can deselect “All Visits” to view only your new market segment.  Now that you have it the way you want to view it, select “Add to Dashboard” and you’ll have an instant view of the organic results every time you log onto your Analytics account.  Or, better yet, click on “Email” and schedule this report to arrive in your inbox on a daily, weekly or monthly interval.  Quick and easy—nothing to it!

Let me know how you make out and please share your own favorite reports.
