Social Media and Network Marketing (MLM) Working Together

November 20, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

Let’s think about this for a minute. Network Marketing has always been about building a business based on a person’s relationships. While very few people have a large enough warm market to build a large business, a persistent MLM entrepreneur can eventually experience the success they desire.
That requires time, persistence and a willingness to build the relationships required to achieve that success. Going to your conventional networking events, your local coffee shop, or pretty much anywhere you can find new contacts is great, but a very slow and painful way to go.
What happens in most cases is that the new Network Marketer are so anxious to add new people to his/her business, the moment they meet someone new they immediately overwhelm them with info concerning how great an opportunity they have to offer. Do this often enough and people begin to run when they see you coming.
There is a VERY good reason that we have two ears and one mouth. We, Network Marketers, should use them proportionately. Regardless of what you are selling, yes – you are selling, but that is a topic for another day.
As I stated regardless of what you are selling you should be a professional and ask the questions required to qualify the person you are speaking with as a good candidate for your opportunity. Please understand that not everyone you know is a good prospect for your business opportunity. In fact most people that you know have no desire to build a MLM business. They are very comfortable with their life as it is and are not willing to put in the effort required to build a business. As such they are NOT good prospects.
While Network Marketing has been around for years, fast forward to Web 2.0 and the Social Media channels that are available to the MLM industry. While there are more and more savvy Network Marketers showing up in the various social media sites that are available, many still have not learned that they cannot vomit all over everyone they have connected with.
The same still holds true in the world of Social Media that holds true in the world of conventional networking. Whether you are building a relationship via the keyboard from thousands of miles away or sharing a cup of coffee in your favorite coffee shop the same rules apply….more on that later.
Just a few of the sites that you should be participating on are: Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, and LinkedIn. Through active participation on these sites you can build a solid list of contacts, establish yourself as a leader in the MLM industry, build traffic to your website site, and earn the right to talk to new prospects about your opportunity. Yes, “earn the right to discuss your opportunity”.
Do NOT pitch everyone that you are connected with, especially when first meeting them. Let me ask a quick question at this point.
In which of the following cases do you think it is an easier sell?
You are trying to convince a prospect that they really want to join your business opportunity.
or
You are answering the questions of a prospect that wants to know how to join your business opportunity.
Spend the time, do your homework, and establish yourself as a leader and you will find the second scenario above happening to you on an ongoing basis. Imagine having 10 to 20 new prospects each day that want information on how to join your MLM business.
Social media channels are no more forgiving than your contacts that you meet in person. Keep trying to force your latest business opportunity on everyone that you meet and you will soon find yourself without any friends.
Focus on building relationships through participation, establish yourself as a leader in the MLM industry, provide VALUE to your relationships by providing good content, and do NOT pitch everyone. Within a very short amount of time you can build a very large contact list of friends by leveraging the technology available through the multitude of Social Media sites available today.
While there are a large number of Social Media sites available as mentioned above the most popular sites are: Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. The most important steps that you can take to start this process of building your Network Marketing business through Social Media are:
- Establish a marketing plan to include the sites, strategies, time spent, goals, etc.
- Put together a complete profile that establishes you as a leader
- Consistent and ongoing participation
- Improve yourself: Learn, Learn, Learn
There is a lot more to this topic that I will cover, but that will have to wait for another day. If you are not taking advantage of Web 2.0 and the Social Media channels available to you as a means of building your MLM business you are doing yourself a huge injustice.

November 19, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

If achieving success online with a home business blog is a goal of yours you’ll be interested in knowing it will simply take more drive then talent. That’s right; blogging to make money require more of your resolve then it does you learning new skills. In fact the key to success in making yours the best blog site in your chosen niche will weigh more heavily upon your efforts then it will upon your talent. If you stop and consider most popular blogs are those that update frequently with fresh and interesting content and on a consistent basis. Think about that! What goes into accomplishing those tasks? Research, diligence, and persistence! Now let’s consider the type of planning you need to do and mindset you’ll need to acquire to make your home business blog the success YOU want.List Your Goals & ObjectivesBe realistic by choosing objectives that you can achieve. Keep them with you for constant reference and as a reminder. It is important here from a personal development standpoint to set goals that match up well with your talents and ambition. Targeting objectives that do not challenge you however, will therefore not motivate you and as a result bringing out your best is not likely to happen.Continually challenge yourself, overcome these challenges and move on to even more challenging goals. This is how you’ll build a bigger and better business.Think big and you’ll accomplish big but if you think small …nothing will happen!Dispel Negative ThinkingBlogging results do not occur over night but instead take time to develop before you’re able to see the fruits of your labor. It is during these times on ‘non-visual’ results that the evil demons on negative thinking can plant their seeds and side track or derail our actions. This type of thinking will only clutter your mind, fog your thinking, and dampen your spirit. Winners think positively and move forward while ‘others’ think of why they can’t succeed and ultimately find that negative thinking is usually the reason why.Always think positively but remember to add just a dash of realism! If mistakes occur learn from them but don’t dwell on them!Make Your Own LuckI regard the word ‘luck’ as often times meaning what happens when careful preparation and the proper mindset meets skillful execution. You sight your objectives, you plan how to meet those objectives and then you implement your plan and bingo objectives met! Now where’s the luck in that?Achieving success with a home business blog is not the result of learning an art or being technologically savvy. No, blogging to make money is more about persistence. If you got the resolve then you possess the key to success in making yours the best blog site in your niche. Once you’ve achieved that you’ve achieved the independence you no doubt were seeking! Congratulations!

Twitter And 15 Ways To Use It

15 Ways You Can Use Twitter: A Guide for Beginners, Marketers and Business Owners

Twitter is a micro blogging platform which allows you to publish short messages of less than 140 characters through different mediums like IM, cellphones and the web.

It has a social element as well, as it allows users to befriend and monitor each other’s messages or updates. So what you have here is a publishing tool that can be either public and private.

Twitter gives you a fragmented experience of opinions, events, news, ideas and feedback largely because its structured to accommodate non-contextual usability: You can easily follow thousands of users and listen in and enter into conversations conducted among multiple users at any point. And this is usually the case.

On the other hand, Twitter can be actively used as a tool to push out messages that capitalize on the attention you’re receiving from other users. Yes, I’m talking about self-promotion and marketing. This involves active user engagement.

For businesses, Twitter is another channel which connects current and potential customers with your product or brand. It allows deeply infiltration into the lifestyles of interested participants, which helps to build brand persistence/loyalty.

In its most obvious form, Twitter can be seen as a traffic generation tool. The placement of links within profiles and conversations can direct visitors to a specific website and is especially powerful if you pitch to early adopters and influencers.

So here are 15 ways to use twitter:

  • Personal Branding. Twitter is a social media platform you can use to build your personal brand. It has the primary benefit of developing a casual persona and establishes you as a social personality that is connected and approachable. As Twitter adoption increases, new users will be drawn towards well established Twitter personas.
  • Get Feedback. Need an alternative perspective on how a website looks or the right course of action to take? Blast out a message asking for advice and you’ll receive replies from other users. This collective intelligence can be used as fodder for articles or projects.
  • Hire People. Need a good logo designer, marketer or programmer? Send out a message asking for recommendations. This is a very quick and easy way to hire freelancers or even companies based on familiar recommendations.
  • Direct traffic. Twitter can be used to get traffic to your websites or the sites of friends. If you ask your friends to tweet about it, the message will spread faster and further as other active users pick it up. There is a viral nature to all types of news, even on a site like Twitter.
  • Read News. Twitter users often link to useful sites or articles and can be a source of scoops and alternative news. You can also subscribe to Twitter feeds for specific websites/conferences, which allows you to receive and view content quickly. This is very useful for active social news participants.
  • Make New Friends. Like any other social network, Twitter has a built-in function for you to befriend and track the messages of other users. This is an easy way for you connect with people outside of your usual circle. Make an effort to add active users you find interesting. A Twitter acquaintance can be developed into a long lasting friendship.
  • Network for benefits. Twitter can be used as a socializing platform for you to interact with other like-minded people, especially those in the same industry. It can be used to establish consistent and deeper relationships for future benefits such as testimonials or peer recommendations.
  • Use it as a To Do list. Use Twitter to record down what you need to do while you are away from the computer. Mark the tweet as a favorite to file it for referencing. Another alternative is to use an Online task management service that is synced with Twitter.
  • Business Management. Twitter can be used as a company intranet that connects employees to one another. Workers can liaise with each other when working on group projects. Particularly useful when certain workers go out often in the field. Updates could be set to private for security reasons.
  • Notify Your Customers. Set up a Twitter feed for the specific purpose of notifying customers when new products come in. Customers can subscribe via mobile or RSS for instant notification. Twitter can also be used to provide mini-updates for one-on-one clients.
  • Take Notes. Twitter provides you with an easy way to record important ideas or concepts you want to explore further. Include links relevant to ideas you want to explore. Note taking can also be done offline via mobile applications.
  • Event Updates. Businesses can use Twitter as a means to inform event participants and latest event happenings/changes. This is a hassle-free way of disseminating information, especially when you don’t have the means to set up a direct mobile link between you and the audience
  • Find Prospects. Twitter can be used as a means to find potential customers or clients online. Do a search for keywords related to your product on Twitter Search and then follow users. Tweet about topics parallel to your product and close prospects away from public channels by using direct messages or offline communications. Discretion and skill is needed in this area.
  • Acquire Votes. Send a link to your stories you’ve submitted in other social news sites like Digg. Sometimes your followers will vote up the stories because they agree with it. This allows you to acquire more support for your efforts on other social media websites.
  • Time Management and Analysis. Twitter can simply be used to keep a detailed record of what you are doing every daily. This might be boring for others but this type of usage is useful when you want to analyze how you spend and manage your time.
