Social Media and Web 2.0 Strategies of the Top Earners

November 18, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

So, you’ve figured out the basis of social media concerning your sales and internet marketing business, but you still don’t know what to do when you begin to interact in social media.  I had this same issue when I first started with social media and web 2.0, trying to figure out how to interact.Well, for starters, to conquer social media and web 2.0 strategies of the top earners, you have to treat social media like a relationship.  If you want people to be interested in you and what you have to offer, you have to build relationships with them.I use the example of my wife (also on the video below):  If I didn’t talk to her, communicate, build our relationship, and generally treat her well and get to know her better, she wouldn’t want to serve me in the different ways she does, like cleaning house, cooking meals, washing clothes, etc.  It’s the same with social media and web 2.0 strategies, to really get anything back from anybody, you have to give a lot more! This is the crucial point you must learn and apply:  after figuring out how to succeed in social media you have to quit selling as I stated before (from my first post on social media), then you must know that you have to build relationships with people. What are some ways you can build relationships with people in social media and web 2.0?1.  Talk to them (like any other relationship you have), but maybe more importantly is listen to them2.  Respond to everyone you can and to comments people make on the various social media and web 2.0 networks (i.e. Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Digg, Stumbleupon, etc.)3.  Add value – link to an interesting article you’ve read, offer advice, give examples of how you’ve failed and succeeded, etc.4.  Be positive – nobody likes negative people, so don’t constantly whine on social media about your life5.  Ask questions6.  Offer a listening ear or even take phone calls from people who want to know what you’re doing (even if you don’t know them)7.  (VERY IMPORTANT) Be honest, people can see straight through lies, even on the internetPeople will only even consider your products in social media AFTER you build a relationship with them and they can trust you.  If you work on these things, it will pay off in the end! There you have it, the social media and web 2.0 strategies of the top earners are very easy to apply, and they’re fun at the same time.  I love using Twitter, Youtube and Facebook.  In the words of my friend, Perry Belcher, think of this as a party – people build relationships at parties, not sales teams!

Social Media Marketing interact with customers

November 18, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

Social media marketing is characterized by engaging social networks like online communities, blogs, wikis and other form of networking sites to reach to their niche customers and creating an interest in them. Twitter, Blogs, LinkedIn, Facebook, Flickr, and UTube are social media marketing tools to create an interest in visiting community. Social media communities are interactive as well as informative. It is not essential that the Company or website has to keep on writing information about their Company. These sites should be updated regularly for greater interactive ability and hence higher publicity. Once a visitor gets a prompt response from the website owner, then only it is sure to become a permanent member and promote the website through word of mouth. Social media marketing is a large means of reaching to the customers, simultaneously. Those websites, who have large database of their customers and visitors, can easily interact with them and create interest in their website’s product and services easily. Social Media Marketing can create a buzz or events that can attract attention from visitors. Buzz ticks and travel through user to user contact. Multiple online social media venues like Twitter, Facebook are good means of building fans.It is to be noted that bad sites backfire on social media marketing. Therefore create such sites which are informative in positive manner. Badly designed site will generate negative publicity and devastating effects for that website. Social media sites are visited almost daily by innumerable visitors. People are registering themselves daily to interact with their friends and make new friends simultaneously. •    This online marketing technique helps to increase website traffic to a website, irrelevant as well as relevant. •    It helps to understand user-behavior. •    Helps detect conversions and keeps record of sales. •    Networking sites provide page-views and exposure from advertisement. •    Creating brand awareness amongst lesser known group and popularizing amongst known customers. •    One of the most important benefits is to create positive brand association and maintaining with full aptitude. Make Money with Twitter

November 5, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

He is by no means a Social Media Purist, but still he teaches what he considers the “right way” to interact on Twitter & other Social Media platforms (hint: it ain’t by spamming people your offers). Harris has a number of years of success in the internet marketing realm and I feel very honored to have him as a guest author today.

With that … here’s Harris’ blog post entitled “Make Money with Twitter”:

So, once again, here’s a quick recap of how you can stage your own Peaceful (or Hostile) Take Over using Twitter.

1. First get a good network of followers going.
2. Build relationships with your network.
3. Get your followers to click on your links & tell others about you by retweeting your messages
4. Make Money with Twitter.

In previous posts, I’ve shared with you simple ways to do steps 1 through 3. In the last post I even added a dimension to step #3 which showed you how to put all that retweeting on HYPERDRIVE by providing things of value to your growing list of followers. But by now, you must be thinking that something is missing. Especially if you’re in business you may, at this point, be wondering if this is just a lot of wheel spinning and wasting your time talking to people.

You’re asking “But, Harris, HOW do I make money?”

Which of course brings me to today’s post. If you take the actions that I’ve been telling you about throughout this process you’ll certainly create a growing list of followers… most likely into the thousands and beyond but up till now we haven’t talked about how to tie it all together and start making some money with this newfound connectedness.

Here’s the thing. You CAN make money using Twitter and you WILL. But it’s got to be a carefully planned process because you can easily ruin your entire pot of soup you’ve been so lovingly stirring and adding ingredients to all this time. If you just start throwing tons of pepper into the pot now, you’ll just ruin all your efforts.

So, let’s unwrap this a bit. What is Twitter?

Twitter is really a free-for-all, information gathering, networking, and socializing all going on at the same time, real time, all the time. It’s kind of like being in the middle of a crowded street in New York at rush hour.

People are streaming in all directions with a phone in one ear, a blackberry in their hand AND trying to hail a cab with the other. It’s HARD to get and keep people’s attention, and if you smack them in the head with a bowl of soup from your cart when they’re not looking they’re going to disengage… just like that. Poof. Relationship damaged. Do it a couple more times and Kablooey. Relationship vanished.

Not only that, they’ll probably be pissed you spilled soup on them.

There’s a couple things to consider here, but the main idea is NOT to try and make money ON Twitter directly. It doesn’t really work. Nothing will get people to unfollow you faster. What you want to do is have a ratio of no more than 5-10% of your tweets even trying to promote anything (whether it’s your product or a product you’re promoting as an affiliate.

What we’ve been doing over the past couple of posts is gently stirring that pot of soup. Building relationships, getting people to click, getting people to retweet. Letting those aromas fill the kitchen and start making your followers hungry for more. You’ve got them retweeting your messages, clicking your links and now you’re going to want to entice them even more by dropping a few breadcrumbs that lead them to your steaming bowl of luscious soup.

The key is to start interspersing all this great value with things of your own. Links that lead your hungry followers to even MORE good value and FREE content that you provide, luring them off of Twitter and onto your own site. If you don’t have you own site yet, there are certainly plenty of affiliate products you can promote. But I still don’t recommend sending people straight to a sales page. You have to lull your followers away from the noisy street and into your tasty cafe. The content can be many things: teleseminars, webinars even a live Ustream show… the possibilities are truly endless as long as you think “VALUE FIRST”.

Once you get their attention directed at you and you alone THEN it’s time to show them your real wares and convince them to buy your soup, so to speak. You can even give them a taste of your soup to really get them hooked before asking them to buy the entire bowl. By that time they’re hungry and they’re not distracted by all the noise going on around them.

So, that’s the big Twitter secret. To make money on Twitter, you have to get people AWAY from Twitter!

Get Targeted Twitter Followers

Get Targeted Twitter Followers

Today, I’d like to introduce you to our guest author, Harris Fellman. Harris recently launched CoupDeTwitter – a course on how to properly get started with twitter, get lots of followers, and turn those followers into cash.

With that … here’s Harris’ blog post entitled “The Easy Way to Get Targeted Twitter Followers”:

Maybe you’re like I was just a few months ago, thinking:

“Twitter is short for Time Waster”

or

“Twitter is just not a business tool”

or

“I joined Twitter and I just don’t get it”

I’ve introduced a number of people to Twitter and I hear things like this all the time. Especially the last statement. Typically what happens is someone will join up, invite some of their friends, and then lo and behold, sit there and wait around for something to happen. Although the founders of Twitter claim that it’s just a micro-blogging tool, it really has become a rapidly growing , if somewhat rudimentary, social network.

Like I said in my last blog post on the subject, there’s a right way and a wrong way to go about attacking Twitter for your own purposes. If you’re jumping into Twitter and looking at it primarily as a way to make money, you’ll fail miserably and you’ll fail quickly.

Allow me to remind you of my rules for “right” Twittering:

  1. First get a good network of followers going.
  2. Build relationships with your network.
  3. Get your followers to click on your links & tell others about you by retweeting your messages
  4. Then, and only then, consider how you might monetize the network.

I actually recommend that you don’t even bother thinking about making any money with your twitter contacts until you’ve got at least 5000 followers. I know what you’re thinking. HANG ON THERE! 5000 followers? How am I gonna get 5000 followers? The answer is quite simple, my friends.

Follow other people first.

It’s based on the law of reciprocity: you follow someone, they follow you back. It’s really the ‘way of the world’ on Twitter and it works far better than any one of the other systems out there. Some of those other ideas for getting followers can work, but truthfully, at the core “follow others and they’ll follow back” is the best system out there. You’re in control of who you’re following & thus what ‘target audience’ you’re hitting as well.

Depending on what niche or business you happen to be in you can expect somewhere between 20 to 50% of those people to follow you back.

Wait a second, Harris… What’s this “business or niche” part?

Let me explain:
One of the coolest aspects of Twitter is that you can really focus down and TARGET people who are interested in what you have to say. I first recommend that you create a good profile and decent background for your account that really shows off your personality and main interests. Make it, what I call, “Follow Friendly” so that when you follow people, they see your Twitter account, the right people will want to follow you back. (The ‘right people’ being people that are also interested in what your key interests or business is all about.)

I’ll finish up this post by letting you in on some some great services that will help you find people who are in your niche and share your personal interests. Be sure to check out MrTweet.com and WeFollow.com to Find People to Follow and Twibes.com to Join Twitter Groups. All you have to do at these sites is type in your keyword and find people in your industry or niche. What you’ll want to do here is find people on Twitter in your area of interest with (generally) between 2,000 and 100,000 followers. And then what you want to do is … not only follow them, but FOLLOW THEIR FOLLOWERS, TOO. Twitter allows you to follow up to 1000 per day – I recommend more like 300-500 per day.

And don’t think you have to do it all yourself – you can hire a virtual assistant to do it for you for a few hundred bucks a month or get a software tool that does this as well. And believe me, there’s plenty of tools out there! I’ve personally tested out a large number of these “follow tools” and the one I recommend is called Improfits.com/twitadder for Following and Unfollowing. It’s only $50 and does everything (and more) than software I’ve seen at 4 times the price.

Of course it doesn’t stop there. There’s a lot more to all of this than just following people (like creating avatars, building relationships, & making money!). And, as you can expect, this is all covered in my Social Media Income System entitled “Coup De Twitter“. There’s a free video for you there with no sign-up required to watch.

Lastly, if you have any questions for me, you can find me on Twitter – my ID there is @harrisfellman – I look forward to hearing from you.

Web 2.0 Tools and Making Money Online

November 4, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

There are a lot of different social networking sites that people are using to make money. If you find the right site and establish yourself you can take advantage of this. How do you capitalize to maximize your investment of time so you achieve maximum results? Choose the right site and get the right results. Here are three helpful tips:

1. Choose the site with the right demographic. Use a site that matches your target audience’s usage. You might need to dabble and play with a few to find the right site but a bit of research will help you find the right social networking site.

2. Find the right people to network with. Twitter is useless unless
you have the right followers. MySpace only helps you if you interact with people. FaceBook is only good if you maximize it, etc.

3. Learn how to make money with each site.

Finding The Right Demographic

You might need to dabble and play with a few to find the right site but a bit of research will help you find the right site. There are sites that are targeted to music or movie lovers. There are sites that offer micro blogging that you can find a lot of people on. And there are sites that you can mine for information about users so that you find out if that site has people who are potential customers for you.

Find the Right People

If you’re selling memberships to a mp3 download site you want to be using a social networking site that has a lot of music lovers. There are a lot of them such as: Buzznet, Capazoo, imeem, Last.fm and others. If you are into books, look at sites like: Shelfari, LibraryThing and Anobil. Mine the site for that information so you know you’re in the right place but then target those people. Interact with people and you might make some sales. If you look like you’re trying to sell you might not sell but if you network in the right way people may visit your links and buy something from you.

Learn How To Make Money From Social Sites

How do you make money with social sites? Here are some examples. On a question and answer site like Yahoo Answers, answer questions and put your sales site as a reference. Do this when the question actually requires that type of answer and do provide value or you’ll be banned. On something like Twitter, add your URL to your site and look for people through a tool like Twitter Search to find people that talk about your subject. On FaceBook you can advertise and create a fan wall or group. On forums put your signature on all posts with links to your site and establish yourself as a helpful expert. On other tools like FriendFinder you can literally find online friends that you can utilize as clients or people who will help you promote your sites.

Social media continues to explode in terms of potential and volume. The web is all about interaction. Learn how to interact with people interested in what you’re selling and you can unleash social marketing tools to their full potential.

Optimize Wordpress for Search Engines

November 4, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

This article is about how to make Wordpress search engines friendly, and optimized for.A default Wordpress installation is SEF enough, which means that the

structure itself performs pretty good in Search Engines. But with these hints, you will give your posts the best environment as possible to compete in the Search

Engines Results Page (SERPs).This guide is divided in five points:

Site structure

Present your website with the best looking face showing to the Engines robots that scan and index your work. Content organization Don’t play messy: if you give

order to your content, it will be more searchable. Write content A few tips about how to write your content optimally – not only for Search Engines. Interact with

others Subtitle is: Don’t just publish your stuff. It’s about being “social” when blogging. Help Search Engines Directly Some final hints to perform well and

maximize the power of your blog.

Site structure

Optimize your theme markup First of all, assure that your theme markup (both CSS) follows the W3C standard guidelines.Put posts content’s code as higher as

you can in , the code block of your sidebar menu should follow the main content.

Permalinks

Have static URLs for your posts. Unless you own a news weblog (for which news evident freshness is force), I suggest to adopt this permalink structure:

/%category%/%post_id%/%postname%/. It drops the defaut inclusion of date information in favor of more descriptive URLs, with a significant keyword inside (that

is the category name). Remember: unless you’re familiar with HTTP code status redirects AND search engines indexing behaviour, DO NOT CHANGE YOUR

PERMALINK STRUCTURE once your website gets indexed and posts linked. Link between posts having the same topic or subject “If one is reading an article

focused on a specific subject, probably he’s interested in reading other posts about the same, or at least similar, topic”. Do you agree with this sentence? Believe

me, search engines do.

All you have to do, is to facilitate the chances of jumping between articles. Link every post with others by the same category (maybe my plugin can help you),

and also link posts that are in some way related each other, even despite the category information (try Related Entries plugin).

Categories

If you write articles on different topics, you should organize them in categories. Open a category for each topic, and be descriptive in its name choose.

Then, be strict when it’s time to categorize your posts. Don’t worry about open a new category, if it’s necessary. Organizing content into categories helps both

visitors and search engines to easily understand what your articles are about, and to search them. Don’t forget to place a link to the filing categories, for each

post, in your template!

Posting order

If you already know the number of articles you’re about to post for next, and you already know that some of them will be about the subject area A, and some other

about another topic, say B, then try to post all your article about A, before you start posting about the topic B. If you can, don’t alternate topics, but make a post

being semantically related with its previous, naturally following them. This will give continuity to your content posting, and will add strength in the engine’s view of

your site. Make your content searchable Wordpress gives two ways to search content: the search form,

and the archives. There’s not much to say about the search form (but maybe you want to track your user’s searches with a specific plugin).

But about archives, I suggest to give up the archive by date, in favor of the category-based one: users will be likely to search articles by content, and not by

publish date. I’m sure yourstatistics will confirm it.Tag your posts: Did you ever see a tag cloud? It’s a direct and very fast way to: 1) see what a blog is

mainly about, and 2) find posts focused on a specific subject. With the keyword tag plugin you can assign keywords to your articles: for every post, you will have

links to searches for other posts tagged with the same key. Since this plugin stores tags in a custom field named keywords, it’s particularly useful when applied in

tandem with the meta keyword plugin.I have noticed that the use of this tag plugin, in conjunction with the meta keyword one, gives great benefits on services like

Technorati (without doing the claim for this blog, people are able to find my posts in Technorati by searching the tags I choose for them).

Writing content

Content:

What you are going to talk about, is all up to you. But you can help both human readers and search engines, making your content friendly. What does it mean,

practically?

When you have found an interesting subject for your post, try to write an article that exhausts the subject matter in a single post; don’t break up the article in

multiple posts: if you have long text, break it with a “read more” link, and don’t be afraid to use lists and paragraphs to separate periods (this helps readability).

If the subject is really wide, write a post for each sub-topic, and exhaust it in the article.Start your post with one or two sentences that summarizes what

the article is about. Repeat key-words and key-phrases of interest inside your post, and emphasize them with a bolder font weight. Once you’ve finished, read

again your text, and make it shorter. Summarize, and don’t go off-topic. Don’t forget to check text for errors: avoid mispelling, typos, and grammar mistakes!

Linked resources should help your post communication, deepening the subject. To do it well, simply follow these rules: If you cite a resource, link it. If you think

that a resource can be useful to your readers, link it, too. But don’t place random or useless links. Place links naturally into text, don’t put them in a

meaningless list at the end of your post.: a link should be a phrase that fits good into the flowing of text. Give descriptive names to link anchors: don’t call a link

“click here”. Give more descriptive titles to your links. Link regularly: no javascript, no server-side click counters, no cloaked nor shorted URLs. These rules applies

both to internal links (links that point to a page of the same domain they’re on) and external links (a link pointing to another resource on the web).

Post titles

Once you have the content ready, think to its title.Find a short phrase that is well-descriptive of your content, possibly not shorter than three words and not longer

than seven. Then, run a search on your favourite engine for your title. See if someone appears in the first page with the exact match of your sentence.Try a

search with only the keywords of your title. Take note of how much results you get, and of who your competitors are.Do the same for each possible title you’ve

thinked at.

Then, think again at your title: be original, try to figure out what will be the keyphrases or keywords that one would type in a search to find an article like yours. If

this match with your title, then use it! Interact with others (don’t just publish your stuff) Open comments, encourage visitors to comment your posts: place an

evident Comment link, ask questions in your articles; in other words: set up some space for your visitors in which they can express themselves! Comments are

content; a good comment is related to your article and can add value information to it.

Track back other’s posts

If your post deeps something discussed on another blog’s post, or if you take a post just as reference to write your own, then link it and use the Trackback

function to send a ping to the post you refer to. There will be a link to your post in some other’s one. Ping only posts that you cite in your article or that are, at

least, strongly related with yours. DON’T DO TRACKBACK SPAM! Once you’ve written your own, Comment others Find another blog article related with the topic

your post is about. Read it carefully, think on it and then, if you have something to say, leave a comment.

Comment intelligently, DON’T SPAM COMMENTS!

Don’t be shy about leaving your Website’s URL, just remember that many adds rel=nofollow to any link in the comment area.Use the Description meta tag, as

following:

This description will be displayed in Search Engine Results Page in some cases, so use a short phrase

that describes well your weblog, and invite users to visit it.

You could also use a personalized description for each post, page, and category page. I suggest to use the meta description plugin for this purpose.

Finally, add the Keywords meta tag. It’s useful if you customize it for every page of your blog, and show, for each post, only the really specific keywords. The meta

keyword plugin can help you: it takes keywords from the custom field named keywords of each post. They will be likely the same as your post tags, if you tag your

posts (see) . This great plugin automatically generates a fully-featured, and fully-customizable Google Sitemap of your Wordpress blog. It automatically updates

the sitemap every time you update your blog, and then pings Google. This plugin’s result can be really fine-tuned.

Ping services

Use the Update service function, to inform tracking services that you have updated your weblog. By default, Wordpress pings rpc.pingomatic.com, which is good

(if you don’t want to change this, you don’t have to). But if you want, you can add/remove services to ping from the list. There is a list of ping services you can

refer to when modifying your Update Service list.

Twitter – How to Write Tweets That Get Peeps to Take Action

November 3, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

Probably the biggest question I get asked is if social networking is worth it or a big waste of time. Well, if you’re doing social networking to make money, and you aren’t making money, then it most certainly is a waste of time.

So, how do you make money with social networking? A lot depends on the words you use and how you interact with your friends and followers. Today I’m going to focus specifically on Twitter.

Remember, for Twitter you only have 140 characters including spaces for every tweet. That means every character counts so use them wisely.

Here are 3 more tips to make those tweets as compelling and persuasive as possible.

1. Get your personality in there. The beauty of social networking is it’s driven by relationships. You build relationships by letting people see who you really are. That means showcasing your personality.

The more people can get a sense of your personality, the more they’ll decide if they like you or not. And the more they know, like and trust you, the more likely they’ll become your customers.

In addition, people don’t like to be sold to. If your tweets sound canned or not authentically from YOU, they’ll be turned off. And turned off people are not likely to buy from you.

2. Give and you shall receive. The more you give, and do things for other people, the more it will come back to you. You spend your time helping other people, the more they’ll help promote your products and services, the more likely they’ll go check out what you offer and if it’s a match, the more likely they’ll buy.

If all you do is push your own stuff on Twitter, you’re not going to get very far. You need to spend most of your time doing things for other people. Then, when you do promote yourself, people will take notice and be more likely to act.

3. Be entertaining. There’s an old quote in the copywriting world that you can’t bore anyone into buying something. (I think it was David Ogilvy who first said it.) Same goes for Twitter. You can’t bore people into building and maintaining a relationship with you. You can’t bore people into promoting your products or events. And you can’t bore people into buying your products.

Now this doesn’t mean you have to a stand-up comic. Sure this is easier if writing short, pithy statements comes naturally to you. But don’t forget Tip #1 — stay true to your personality. We’re all interesting in our own way, even if you’re not a stand-up comic.

The key here is to be entertaining in your own unique and personal way. What, you don’t think you’re entertaining? You have friends, right? You go out to dinner with them, right? What do you talk about? You’re entertaining them or they wouldn’t want to go dinner with you.

So entertain your twitter followers the same way. And the ones who respond to that will respond to you. And as they get to know you, they’ll move to like and trust. And that leads to them becoming your customers.
