5 types of business that should be using Twitter

They’re all talking about it – the online phenomenon for 2009. Forget Google, forget Facebook and don’t even mention Yell.com – Twitter is where it’s at this year!

Founded in 2006 as a way to let fellow members know “what you are doing”, Twitter has expanded way beyond its founders wildest dreams.

2009 is the year Twitter has become more “mainstream”. This has been helped by celebrities such as Stephen Fry, Ashton Kutcher and Jonathan Ross espousing its virtues but also by the number of businesses out there realising the marketing and promotional capabilities of Twitter.

However it’s usually when I talk to potential clients about using Twitter as part of their social media marketing, I hear:

“It’s just for kids and geeks”

“Only IT and Marketing bods make money from it”

and other such comments.

With this in mind, here are a random 5 industries, each with 5 ways they could use Twitter to promote their business:

1) HOTELS

Twitter is fast paced, instant communication, ideal for the hotel & hospitality industry.

Hotels could:

- Communicate last minute offers – Use Twitpic to show pictures of rooms – Post customer testimonials – Request feedback from guests

DM Bonus – If your guests have Twitter, why not DM them a special Twitter code if they eat dinner in the hotel?

2) PHOTOGRAPHERS

While Twitter is seen mainly as a textual medium, it can be visual too.

Photographers, why not:

- Use Twitpic to post a “picture of the day” – Tweet about the photo shoot you’re doing today, so people get a feel for your scope – Post links to your blog/website – Use TwTQpon to offer free studio time (specify purchase of X photos) – Ask satisfied customers to retweet the link to their pic(s) in your portfolio

DM Bonus – If your customers are on Twitter, DM them the link to thier pictures on your password protected server, or private group on Flickr/Facebook etc.

3)ASTROLOGIST

It’s not always easy to get people to sign up to a mailing list on a website if you’re in a very niche industry, but it’s a lot easier to get followers on Twitter.

- Use Hootsuite to run 12 daily horoscope accounts – one for each star sign – Post details of astrologically important days/dates/events – Offer a free reading for every 50th follower – ask people to retweet – Post testimonials from satisfied clients – Post celebrity horoscopes on a weekly basis

DM Bonus – Offer free 140 character descriptions of each star sign – have them ready to cut and paste. Offer them by DM only. (People have to follow you to get DM’s)

4) HOLIDAY RESORT/GUESTHOUSE

If SEO is too competitive and too costly, try Twitter – the only cost is your time, and even that can be minimal!

- Use 12 second TV to post short video testimonials filmed on an iPhone or similar – Use Twitpic to post pictures of your resort – Post about local traditions/holidays/etc – Tweet last minute special offers/prices – Use TwtQpon to offer money off local/on site restaurants/bars

DM Bonus – Guests on Twitter? DM them to let them know they can check in.

5) SPEAKERS

It might be written communication, but I know a few speakers doing very well from Twitter, so if you’re a speaker, why not:

- Post links to audio files of you speaking – Autofeed your calender/blog into your Twitter account so people know where you’re speaking – Post a “tip of the day” each day, related to your speciality – Use 12 second TV to post short clips of you speaking then link to the longer version on youtube/your website – Use Twitter search to find people talking about your speciality/niche – ask them if they can introduce you to people wanting speakers

DM Bonus – Offer a free ebook / whitepaper / mention on your website by DM only. The only way to get it is to follow you so you can DM them.

So there you have it – 5 types of business that should be using Twitter, and 5 things they can use it for.

4 Seo Tricks can Ban your Site from Search Engine !

November 14, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

With the increasing competition on web the webmasters feel that their ultimate goal is to achieve top position in Google. This is fine until u don’t adopt any unfair means for SEO. Playing any bad tricks can give you high traffic for one month, but remember there is high possibility of your site being banned for ever. It’s because the search engines are smarter than you and updates their algorithms frequently, also considers different factors to rank pages. Nobody in the world knows how Google’s Page rank algorithm works except its founders. So, if you are using any such tactics then be careful from now and don’t encourage others to use these techniques.1)    Guarantied Ranking – No one can guarantee Google ranking. If your SEO consultant guarantees you first rank that means he just tricking you. You can only try to optimize and wait for google to rank it higher.2)    Cloaking – Cloaking is a technique where different content is presented to Search engines and different content to users. This is done by delivering content based on the IP addresses. When a user is identified as a search engine spider, a server-side script delivers a different version of the web page, one that contains content not present on the visible page. So, cloaking results in deceptive ranking in the search results. That is why all the search engines say “don’t cloak” in their Webmaster FAQs. 3)    Link Exchange Programs – This claims to boost your link popularity by linking your page with Web sites that have nothing to do with your content. Initially it may benefit your ranking, but its just matter of time before Search Engines detect it and your site is gone. Search engines have the ways to detect these bad techniques.

4)    Keyword Stuffing – In this technique webmasters try to hide keywords inside page. Like put lots of keywords in white color in white background. Users can’t see these words but Search Engine Crawlers can. So, avoid such bad tricks.

Seo – What Is Spamdexing?

November 10, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

Spamdexing (a buzz word that is a combination of both spamming and indexing) is a term that means search engine spamming. Spamdexing or search engine spamming refers to the practice of intentionally creating web pages which will be indexed by search engines in order to increase the chance of a website or page being placed close to the beginning of search engine results. Some spamdexing is conducted to try and influence the category to which the page is assigned. Many designers of web pages try to get a good ranking in search engines and design their pages accordingly.
Search engines use a variety of algorithms to determine the ranking and relevancy of a web page. Some of these include determining whether the search term appears in the META keywords tag, others whether the search term appears in the body text or URL of a web page. A variety of techniques are used to commit the SEO crime of spamdex including content spamming and link spamming. Many search engines check for instances of spamdexing and will remove suspect pages from their indexes. Some search engines will also ban a site for spamdexing.
Spamdexing has done the Internet a lot of damage; in particular to the way we search for information. The rise of spamdexing in the mid-1990s made the leading search engines of the time less useful. One of the reasons that Google is so successful is that its founders invented a PageRank link system that defied spamdexing and made Internet searches more relevant to the links that would actually show up on search engine pages.
Google is not invulnerable to spamdexing or other more sophisticated methods of search engine spamming (also known as black hat SEO.) Google bombing is another form of search engine result manipulation, which involves placing hyperlinks that directly affect the rank of other sites on a page to try and boost rankings.

Blogging and incorporating new ideas into their online businesses Blogging

November 8, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

Blogging is a way for people to get to know you over a period of time. There are about 80 million blogs on the internet, but most of these have been abandoned and long forgotten within a month or two of being created. When I started blogging, almost three years ago now, I could not understand why someone would take the time to set up a blog, only to let it go after such a short amount of time.

As I continued blogging, I realized that it took more time and effort than I had originally anticipated. After just a couple of months I felt like I had said everything I had to say on the topics I was writing about. For more details www.building-blog-empire.com began to post less and less frequently to my blog and soon I dreaded the thought of making even one more post. That’s when I decided to get professional help. No, I did not seek out the advice of a psychiatrist or therapist. Instead, I found a blogging mentor program where I could connect with other bloggers and receive guidance from the professional bloggers who were the founders of this mentor program.

blogging, blogger,blogspot,make money from blog

Over the next few months I learned more about blogging than I could ever have imagined. I became energized with new ideas and methods for getting readers to my blog and posting on a regular basis. I also connected with the other members of the mentor program and had an opportunity to ask them questions about various aspects of their blog and online business. I could see right away that many of the members were doing extremely well on the internet, and I had the chance to emulate some of their methods.

The best part of this blogging mentor group and forum is the learning process that goes on. We have access to training calls and teleseminars, as well as having our questions answered promptly. For more details www.profit-pulling-toolbars.com is has become the first place I go when I am looking for a joint venture partner, outsourcing recommendations, and information on monetizing my specific niche.

There are so many forums and mentor programs available on the internet that it is difficult to sort out which programs are legitimate and will help you to build a profitable online business. I feel fortunate to have found this one because now I have about three hundred people who are as serious about blogging and incorporating new ideas into their online businesses as I am. I encourage you to make a connection like this and blog your way to online success.

Get Targeted Twitter Followers

November 5, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

Get Targeted Twitter Followers

Today, I’d like to introduce you to our guest author, Harris Fellman. Harris recently launched CoupDeTwitter – a course on how to properly get started with twitter, get lots of followers, and turn those followers into cash.

He is by no means a Social Media Purist, but still he teaches what he considers the “right way” to interact on Twitter & other Social Media platforms (hint: it ain’t by spamming people your offers). Harris has a number of years of success in the internet marketing realm and I feel very honored to have him as a guest author today.

With that … here’s Harris’ blog post entitled “The Easy Way to Get Targeted Twitter Followers”:

Maybe you’re like I was just a few months ago, thinking:

“Twitter is short for Time Waster”

or

“Twitter is just not a business tool”

or

“I joined Twitter and I just don’t get it”

I’ve introduced a number of people to Twitter and I hear things like this all the time. Especially the last statement. Typically what happens is someone will join up, invite some of their friends, and then lo and behold, sit there and wait around for something to happen. Although the founders of Twitter claim that it’s just a micro-blogging tool, it really has become a rapidly growing , if somewhat rudimentary, social network.

Like I said in my last blog post on the subject, there’s a right way and a wrong way to go about attacking Twitter for your own purposes. If you’re jumping into Twitter and looking at it primarily as a way to make money, you’ll fail miserably and you’ll fail quickly.

Allow me to remind you of my rules for “right” Twittering:

  1. First get a good network of followers going.
  2. Build relationships with your network.
  3. Get your followers to click on your links & tell others about you by retweeting your messages
  4. Then, and only then, consider how you might monetize the network.

I actually recommend that you don’t even bother thinking about making any money with your twitter contacts until you’ve got at least 5000 followers. I know what you’re thinking. HANG ON THERE! 5000 followers? How am I gonna get 5000 followers? The answer is quite simple, my friends.

Follow other people first.

It’s based on the law of reciprocity: you follow someone, they follow you back. It’s really the ‘way of the world’ on Twitter and it works far better than any one of the other systems out there. Some of those other ideas for getting followers can work, but truthfully, at the core “follow others and they’ll follow back” is the best system out there. You’re in control of who you’re following & thus what ‘target audience’ you’re hitting as well.

Depending on what niche or business you happen to be in you can expect somewhere between 20 to 50% of those people to follow you back.

Wait a second, Harris… What’s this “business or niche” part?

Let me explain:
One of the coolest aspects of Twitter is that you can really focus down and TARGET people who are interested in what you have to say. I first recommend that you create a good profile and decent background for your account that really shows off your personality and main interests. Make it, what I call, “Follow Friendly” so that when you follow people, they see your Twitter account, the right people will want to follow you back. (The ‘right people’ being people that are also interested in what your key interests or business is all about.)

I’ll finish up this post by letting you in on some some great services that will help you find people who are in your niche and share your personal interests. Be sure to check out MrTweet.com and WeFollow.com to Find People to Follow and Twibes.com to Join Twitter Groups. All you have to do at these sites is type in your keyword and find people in your industry or niche. What you’ll want to do here is find people on Twitter in your area of interest with (generally) between 2,000 and 100,000 followers. And then what you want to do is … not only follow them, but FOLLOW THEIR FOLLOWERS, TOO. Twitter allows you to follow up to 1000 per day – I recommend more like 300-500 per day.

And don’t think you have to do it all yourself – you can hire a virtual assistant to do it for you for a few hundred bucks a month or get a software tool that does this as well. And believe me, there’s plenty of tools out there! I’ve personally tested out a large number of these “follow tools” and the one I recommend is called Improfits.com/twitadder for Following and Unfollowing. It’s only $50 and does everything (and more) than software I’ve seen at 4 times the price.

Of course it doesn’t stop there. There’s a lot more to all of this than just following people (like creating avatars, building relationships, & making money!). And, as you can expect, this is all covered in my Social Media Income System entitled “Coup De Twitter“. There’s a free video for you there with no sign-up required to watch.

Lastly, if you have any questions for me, you can find me on Twitter – my ID there is @harrisfellman – I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks for Reading,
