Blogging for Business Traffic – A Newbies Guide to the Business Blog

November 24, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

Operating a business blog can attract new customers and establish your organization as an industry leader.  Still, going about this can be a difficult and time consuming endeavor.  To compete for new business, most organizations are now operating a business blog page.

That business blogs attract viewers and customers is a well known fact.  SEO Consultants have been assisting organizations for years in building this new type of sales tool.  Setting up the blog is not a hugely time-consuming or even expensive endeavor.   Still, blogging takes time and can require a significant on-going investment.  Composing and creating valuable content is not an easy task and to run through the exercise day after day can leave the author worn out and out of ideas.   Still, the concept of ‘valuable content’ is central to attracting and re-attracting viewers to the business site.    So when things get difficult and ideas are hard to come by, companies frequently ask “how much blogging is necessary?”  Posting at least once every day is a difficulty that most successful business bloggers overcome.  Generating enough fresh new ideas is a challenge, but if it was easy, everyone would be doing it.  So… overcoming the challenges of creating new content each day or multiple times each day is a very important part of a successful blog traffic strategy.  New and valuable content must be posted regularly – preferably daily – if you want to compete at the top of your niche for readers. There are two main types of blog readers: Initial visitors, and Repeat readers.Initial visitors may be attracted by a blog post you made on another site, or because your site showed up as a result on a search engine.  Once there, they must receive value and be at least entertained by the content you present.  Otherwise, they will be much less likely to become repeat visitors.  Repeat visitors are ones that have some assurance that the time taken to revisit your site will not be wasted.  Repeat visitors may also be members of the niche community that may be searching for new ideas themselves. So how do you use a blog to attract both types of visitors?   There really are only two elements to improve traffic and search engine placement with a business blog.

Yup… it just isn’t any more complex than that… just two areas upon which to focus.  (These are big task areas though!)Creating Value:

Provide something useful or a guideline that will be helpful to your readers.  Thinking of your reader as a customer, he or she won’t invest time with you unless there is something they can get out of the relationship.  And… understanding that creating value is a time-consuming effort, the author must schedule in time to prepare good material.  Telling People:

Once your content is created and posted, what then?  Well….don’t just stand there, tell someone!  This is why it is important that you reach out via a blog or social network to let people know they can receive some value by visiting your page.    Social marketing such as Facebook and Twitter can help attract readers if you let viewers know there is new and valuable material posted on your site. There are numerous tactics one can while visiting other blogs within the niche, but suffice it to say that you need to be a part of your community and share your knowledge and expertise.  A comment on another’s blog that shows insight and wit will attract readers over to your site.  And once they are there, they should receive a unique bit of content or value.  There is no substitute for visiting other blog pages in your niche.  This brings us back to how much new information and blog activity is necessary to attract readers.  There is of course no short answer to this.  A good rule of thumb is though, to post every day and comment every day.  Your level of success will be somewhat dependent on the competition you have in your niche and the size of your potential audience.  There is however, no substitute for being active in terms of posting and commenting.  And this takes time.Blogging allows you to actively put your message out for the community, but the community must be invited to read it.   If the message isn’t valuable or if the community doesn’t know the value is there, you are missing huge opportunities to attract readers and ultimately, buyers.

Eliminate Cravings and Stop Binge Eating

November 20, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

CravingsIf I were to ask you what food you crave the most, what would it be?  If this is an easy answer you are probably depriving yourself of it.  I love peanut butter.  Peanut butter is a great food; it’s a great source of protein. But I would never allow myself to have it because I would eat the whole jar in a couple of days! So the longer I tried to go without it, the more my cravings would intensify.  And finally when I was in a weak moment, I would eat it all and then feel guilty. Then the whole cycle would begin again. Here is the solution. Whatever you crave, eat a little bit of it every day until you no longer crave it.  I would have a tablespoon of peanut butter after my breakfast every morning for about two months. I no longer experienced those intense cravings for peanut butter.I used to be jealous of people who say they had potato chip bags in their cupboards.  You bought it a week ago and it’s still there?? I used to never keep chips in my house until I got a craving and I would go out and eat a whole bag in one sitting.  Now, I take a small plastic bag and fill it with chips and bring it for lunch.  I did this almost every day for a couple of weeks and my cravings went away.  I no longer needed my fix of potato chips.

Binge EatingBinge eating is the consumption of large amounts of food in one sitting. I would usually binge on food when no one was around and I was feeling depressed or bored. Sometimes I think it was a way to punish myself because I had low self-esteem and had feelings of self-loathing. Then when I would binge I could say to myself, ‘See? You are pathetic and worthless.’You can stop binge eating! One way is to take steps to eliminate cravings as discussed above. Another, is to address issues of self-worth and self-esteem.  You have to believe you are a good person and you deserve to be healthy and beautiful.  Exercise! Exercising makes you feel good about yourself and your body and it will decrease the urge to binge. What to do after you binge.1.  Don’t beat yourself up. You are probably feeling guilty, ashamed and depressed. You need to realize that one binge won’t make you gain 10 pounds.  2.  Don’t let this throw you off your new, healthy lifestyle.  Tomorrow is a brand new day to start fresh and to reassess what made you binge and how you can prevent it from happening the next time.  3.  Try to remember exactly how you are feeling at that moment so if you are tempted to binge at another time, you can recall how horrible you felt afterwards. 4.  Sometimes, we need to fall a little off track to get back on track and rejuvenate ourselves and regain the motivation to keep striving towards our goals.

Are You a Binge Eater?

November 17, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

Ever wonder if you have a serious problem with binge eating?

In the Harvard Mental Health Letter, I read a feature article
about the treatment of bulimia and binge eating.

Bulimia is defined as 2 or more episodes of binge eating
(consuming a large amount of food in 2 hours or less) at least
twice a week for 3 months. These episodes may be followed by
vomiting or purging (with laxatives or diuretics) and may
alternate with fasting and compulsive exercising.

People who suffer from bulimia often view this behavior as a
shameful secret.

Binge Eating Disorder (binging that is not followed by vomiting,
fasting or exercise) has gotten more attention recently since it
is being considered for inclusion as a psychiatric diagnosis.

The criteria are tentatively listed as “a condition that causes
serious distress with at least 3 of the following symptoms
occurring at least 2 days a week for 6 months:

•eating very fast •eating until uncomfortably full •eating when
not hungry •eating alone •feeling disgusted or guilty afterward

Since most of the population has probably engaged in these
eating behaviors at one time or another, I guess it comes down
to the frequency and severity of the problem.

You can be a binge eater, but you would have to be binging quite
regularly to be considered to have Binge Eating Disorder.

Many people engage in some of these behaviors all the time.
People who live alone often eat alone.

And while eating when you aren’t hungry is not the most
satisfying experience, sometimes it is just an ingrained habit.

You do not have to be overweight to be a binge eater.

Many people with binge eating problems think they are overweight
or are worried that they will become seriously overweight.

Dieting does not necessarily stop the binging and is often
viewed as being part of the problem rather than the solution.

The body resists dieting by slowing metabolism and increasing
appetite, commonly accompanied by an intense preoccupation with
food, more binging, anxiety and depression.

If you are struggling with bulimia or severe binge eating
problems, seek help and get the support you deserve.

Don’t keep it a secret.

You do not need to be heroic and suffer alone.

If you engage in some of the binge eating behaviors, join the
club and keep reading . . .

You can learn to change all of these behaviors, even mild to
moderate binge eating by listening to your body, eating
mindfully and being kind to yourself.

Google Adsense And Your Blog

November 16, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

Anyone who bought Google’s shares a few years back must be really happy now with the returns. But most of these investors know Google only as a search engine and nothing else. There’s no denial to the fact that Google started off as a search engine but the guys at Google were smart enough to realize the true potential of internet and branched out the company into several other businesses.
One of these subsidiaries of Google is called AdSense. Most of you must have heard of it but are not sure of what it is and how it helps people make a lot of money online. We’ll tell you here all that you need to know about Google AdSense and how you too can benefit from it.
In layman’s terms Google AdSense is a marketing company. But you must rise above that level if you really want it to also work for you. It is not just any other ordinary marketing company. It is an online marketing company and its marketing techniques are to say the least very innovative. It is an advertising company that is paid only if people see the advertisements and click on it.
Google AdSense ads are one of the most convenient and hassle free ways of advertising on your website. You just have to sign up with Google AdSense, accept their terms and then just sit back and do your part of the bargain, that is blogging and posting relevant content on your blog. After Google places ads on your blog and the visitors click on it Google will pay you fee based on Pay Per Click basis.
So what’s in it for Google? Well, Google does not pay you the entire advertising fee to you but only a smaller percentage of what it gets. So Google also makes a good amount of money in all this exercise.
Now you must be thinking that why should you share the advertising revenue with Google when you are doing all the hard work of attracting visitors to your blogs? Well, that is because Google has a brand name which you perhaps don’t have right now. Apart from that Google being a huge organization has more credibility amongst the advertisers than an individual or a small company. So there’s nothing to fret about if you have to share the revenue generated out of advertising with Google AdSense. If you want to see what I am saying try and persuade 4 companies to advertise on your website and pay you on per click basis.
The form which you have to fill in for subscribing to Google AdSense will ask for some of your information like bank account number, Social Security number, Tax account number, address etc. Feel free to give it them because your information will be encrypted and stored only to be retrieved in case of a legal issue.
Google AdSense also pays the subscribers for referrals. Referrals basically mean that you will get paid an amount of money if you refer someone else to become a subscriber of Google AdSense. Also if you place Google’s toolbar on your blog and somebody downloads it, then also you get a commission for that based on every download.
While a lot of people have made a lot of money with Google AdSense, there are many others who just can’t stop complaining that it is just another fraud. The crux of the matter is that you have to be smart and write content that is search engine friendly while being informative or interesting to the reader at the same time if you really want Google AdSense to work for you.

Increase Traffic Through New Blog Carnivals

November 2, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

Generate Traffic to your Blogs by Submitting Blog Content to Blog Carnivals

Article Marketing is a very important traffic generation exercise that have been discussed all the time. We have also heard of Blog Submitter to generate traffic. But this is something really new, the concept of getting traffic through Blog Carnivals.

What is Blog Carnivals

Blog Carnivals is a kind of blog event. It is similar to producing a magazine, focusing on a focused subject matter, and is published on a regular schedule, often weekly or monthly. Each edition of a blog carnival is in the form of a blog article that contains links to other blog articles on the focused subject.

Blog Carnival posts are generally organized by the author by mentioning relevant contributions from interested bloggers. The author collects links to these submissions, edits and annotates them and publishes the resulting round-up to his or her blog. Many carnivals have a home page or principal organizer, who lines up guest bloggers to host each edition. This means that the carnival travels, appearing on a different blog each time.

Attract Blog Carnival Traffic

Communities of blog readers, writers, and edition hosts form around specific carnivals. The carnivals provide an compilation of recent posts by the community on a given topic, and the host provides a level of editing and annotation that helps readers find posts they are interested in. Writers who submit their articles to blog carnivals are rewarded with traffic (if the host decides to give them a link and, perhaps, a positive review).

Blog Carnival List

Blog carnivals are being launched all the time from different blog owners for different topics. Some websites host a list of blog carnivals that were and currently active. You may browse through the large Blog Carnival List and find suitable carnivals, with related topics to your blog and submit your related blog post to these carnivals.

Since there can be many blog carnivals with similar topics occurring at the same time, you will want to maximize your effort by submitting to as many of these blog carnivals as possible. However, the process of going through the list of carnivals and submitting your blog posts to each and everyone of them can take much time. To save your precious time, you could use a Blog Carnival Submitter that has a function to easily find related carnivals based on keywords and lets you submit your articles to all the related blog carnivals all at once!

What to Submit to Blog Carnivals

Submitting content or articles to Blog carnivals are a little different than submitting articles to Article Directory. With article directories, you do not really need to post your article in your own website and simply include a link to any web url you wish.

With Blog Carnivals, you will need to actually submit articles that are hosted in your blog/website. In other words, you are not submitting articles but submitting a link to your blog posts that contains the articles.

You can enter the link of your blog posts into Blog Carnival Submitter software and submit them to all related carnivals all at once. Thus saving the repeating time-consuming process of doing it one by one. You can also submit more than one blog post to all carnivals all at the same time.

If you have submitted a good blog post, you will be highly rewarded by carnival owners with a back link to your blog and command limiteless amount of traffic for many years to come.

Hence submitting articles to Blog Carnival should be part of your internet marketing strategy and is definitely a good addition to your article marketing automation, search engine optimization and traffic generation effort.

10 SEO Tips

November 2, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

Search engine optimisation (SEO) can be an expensive exercise in terms of both time and money if you do not have a definitive plan of what to do and what not to do.

The best SEO strategies involve following white hat SEO techniques and staying away from activities that could adversely affect your search engine rankings or worse, that can get your website banned by Google et al. In this article I’m going to discuss 10 do’s of SEO that will keep you on the most appropriate SEO path and improve your search engine rankings.

SEO Tips – 10 Do’s Of SEO

1) Thoroughly research potential keywords. The main purpose of organic SEO is to get increase relevant and targetted traffic for all the right keywords. As SEO can take lots of effort, and sometimes money, you should have a clear idea right from the start as to what keywords you want to target. There are many services available, such as WordTracker and Google AdWords Keyword Tool but I recommend you use your own discretion. These tool will enable you to find the most popular pages and just as importantly the pages with the least competition.

2) Target long tail keywords. These keywords have lower volumes of traffic, but in total add up to a sizeable amount of business. These keyphrases will of course have less competition which means you will be able to see results far quicker and with less effort, givingyour SEO campaign an initial boost.

3) Relevant content. Relevant content makes your website information-rich; increases your keyword density; it makes your website link-worthy and fetches you high-value inbound links. Updating your website with new relevant content should form part of any good long term SEO strategy.

4) Unique titles for every page. Titles are used by the search engines to both rank and display pages. Leveraging your page titles will increase your rankings and search engine traffic.

5) Each of your websites pages should have a unique description META tag. Your description meta tag should describe your page in one or two sentences, and of course include your keywords. Like the title your description also appears on the search engine results pages and as searchers often click links after reading the description your page description should obviously be as compelling as possible.

6) Keep the important content near the top. Make sure that the relevant, keyword-rich content stays near the top of your web page.

7) Wherever possible vaild semantic HTML is preferable. Use the heading tags to highlight your main points and ensure that your keywords appear within your heading tags (h1, h3, h3, etc.).

8) Use search engine friendly URLs. Try not to use dynamically generated URLs, instead use search engine friendly URLs .

9) Create a sitemap and keep it up to date. A sitemap should be a separate web page containing links to all your web pages you want indexed by the search engine crawlers.

10) Online directories. Having entries in directories likeYahoo, BOTW and DMOZ! (it’s the original directory) can enhance your search engine rankings if your link gets included in them.

How To Use Twitter As A Great Writing Exercise While Learning

October 29, 2009 by IBI · Leave a Comment

One of the latest social networking phenomenons is Twitter. It seems to be on the mind of every celebrity, politician, student, business owner, and social maven.

If you aren’t aware of what Twitter is, here is a brief description. Twitter lets you post (the catch is 140 characters total or less) what you are doing, thoughts on a subject, a plug for a product, or a hello to your friends. You follow Twitter users and they can follow you as well.

Here is where I have found a new use of the site. One of the exercises I am currently teaching is how to say what you need to in articulate sentences while still staying in the 140 character restriction.

Yes, there are ways to circumvent the limitations such as using u for you or 4 and not 4 but when you can get a full impact to the reader without having to abbreviate your thoughts, you have learned a valuable tool.

When you speak or write the key is to keep the attention of those that you are communicating with. We often find ourselves endlessly explaining something that could be stated in more concise patterns.

The exercise is can be advantageous for the sports commentator that has to get his point across between each pitch of a baseball game or in between downs of a National Football League broadcast. It can help somebody on a job interview think faster and better their choice of words. Maybe you are a business owner and need to get the attention of a future client in a couple of sentences, or you are writing a headline for a blog post.

Whatever the reason why not try this. Think of a message you want to get across to friends, family, co-workers, and so on. Start to write the contents in Microsoft Word. When you have finished check the character count and if it is over 140 try to condense it without using abbreviations and losing the meaning of your thoughts. The next thing you can do is to take something that you have already posted or written that is over 140 characters and see if you can truncate this as well. It is not always feasible to be effective with a word or character limitation but for practice it can only benefit your speaking and writing capabilities today, tomorrow, and further down the road. What have you got to loose but a few words. Good luck!
